This is the worst store in all of Cedar Rapids. You can't even get through the parking lot without some l**** asking for change or a "square", which is ghettoville for "cigarette". Worst job I've ever had too as they treat the employees like crap.

My sister and father used to shop here occasionally. My father may he rest in peace, had a terrible experience where he came out to the car, which was an old car for an old man, and found someone had broken his car window. A busy store with lots of foot traffic, lots of unsavory characters. My sister may she rest in peace, switched to a Hy vee closer to her home. Thank goodness, because I hated waiting in the car in that parking lot, listening to people yelling at each other as they walked in and out of the store.

why are the female customer service people and management that are demand so rude? they act and task to people like if your not rich your trash? honestly they shouldn't be in customer service. they need to lean respect. no. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HYVEE ON FIRST AVENUE. they need to be retrained

Above & beyond! I called not even an hour ago to switch my pharmacy from Oakland to 1st and told her my issue with Oakland. This beautiful woman was able to get me my medication for free even though my insurance wasn’t able to cover it until next month because of an error Oakland made. Not only was she able to do that, but she even personally delivered it to my home because she wasn’t able to reach me on my cell. I wish I could remember her name, but I won’t forget her face and will be in to personally thank her for her Above & Beyond service! It shows she really cares.

I have been to this particular Hy Vee many times and have received stellar service. HOWEVER, tonight, when I suggested that they put a light on the express lane indicating that it was open, the "service" woman stated that if that was the worst thing that happened after the remodel, I should just shut up. I stated that I was going to post a view on yelp, and she refused to serve me. I asked for the manager, and she said she was the manager. Then she threatened to call the police. Really!? You have a complaint and she wants to call the police!? WTF!!!!! I went to another HyVee where I was treated as a valued customer, and went to the service desk and made a complaint. Not every HyVee is bad. but the one on the first ave is totally sketchy. Don't go there at night.

Hy Vee should be embarrassed by this location. It's the Hy Vee in closest proximity to the southeast side and the chain has clearly decided that people that live in that community don't matter. The store is in poor physical condition and the selection is terrible. For example, I recently stopped in to get a few ingredients to make pasta for dinner and I couldn't even get fresh lean ground beef for my sauce---they just had one choice labeled "ground beef" with no further info about the grade of beef. I've frequently noticed they don't stock most products available at any other Hy Vee in town including a wide selection of fruits and veggies. I live on the northeast side and this hy vee is probably easiest for me to get to, especially on the way home from work. However, I usually just end up driving further to another location to avoid dealing with the problems. It really is disappointing that Hy Vee would have such low regard for a community in the city that they would keep the store in the condition that it's in.
