Would love to give 0 because like many other reviews this place is a fraud, and the manager is of no help even when admitting to their error of improper training of employees.
Long story- short my insurance was paying for rental due to a accident well I called them to find out the exact date that I had to have my rental back because I was going to be out of town when I thought that my car needed to be back so I was either a going to turn it in prior to me leaving or the day that I came back. The employee said "oh no you have it until the 4th" which would have been a week after I got back. I said are you sure about that he said yep. I said okay well I ended up calling back about 10 minutes later and I asked the employee if he could double check that because I wanted to make sure again he tells me yep I'm 100% sure so I go out of town I come back. The day that it's supposed to be back they were closed, I called the 800 number and I spoke to two employees on the 1-800 number none of them said anything about it needing to be back prior. I left a message for the local branch to call me back actually two messages and I spoke to another person on the 1-800 number and they did not say anything about it was supposed to be back prior either. So that Monday I hadn't heard anything by the afternoon so I called the local branch. The same person I talked to originally that told me nope you're supposed to have it back this day is the one that told me that I was supposed to have it back 10 days prior, I said but you're the one I spoke to not once but twice and he admitted I must have gotten messed up and asked if I wanted to speak to the manager. I said yes because that's a lot of money well the manager calls me and I'm upset he's just saying sorry, making excuses such as he's new, he's not trained properly. Not once did he say hey you know what it was our mistake nothing basically it's saying well that's too bad you still have to pay everything well I got upset and I was crying and I explained to him you know that's a lot of money. Your guys you are the ones that did it.
I know in my job we wouldn't do that like we would try to make it right with the person and I started to cry and I said you know it's just me I'm alone in this world and the manager laughed at me and said I highly doubt that which I am and they ended up taking almost $600 out of my account.
I was supposed to get the same rate that my insurance company did which was $20 a day if I rented it longer well they charged me double what they were charging my insurance. They took it out of my account and they're not at all attempting to make it right or to refund me the double I'm out. Nor send me a invoice or any type of bill.
Do not rent a car from these people especially the office in Ankeny.
It is now being disputed through the bank and the fraud department. And I will take it to court if needed.

Terrible place to rent a car.. the business is a mess, nobody knows what's going on. The employee look like they just woke up and sobered up. The vehicle I picked up had no gas, was dirty on the inside and out. I would definitely look around before renting from this place... very disappointing!

Hertz 0 stars, what a joke, reserved a car 36 hrs before pick up, show up there and get told he has no rentals! What a loser of a business!!!!!

Hertz does not exist at this location and it took us an hour to find a place to return car! I am sure they will have some automated message but we could only get ahold of them using the emergency number. Do not use them!

Called less than 12 hours before my prepaid reservation to tell me that they could not fill my reservation and I had to call their 1-800 for a refund. I am now scrambling to find a rental for vacation. I wish I could give 0 stars.

They called me no car available 3 hours before I pack up the car. This is worse agent I ever met.

I wish I could give 0 stars.
I rented via my insurance carrier, and my insurance carrier paid 100% of the charges.
Initially, I was billed 5x the deposit, extra charges were added that I didn't ask for, nor approve. Then refunded, then 2 months later they charged me an extra $175 for absolutely no reason.
Customer service is non-existent. The customer service from this office, has been poor at best. Not impressed, will NEVER use Hertz again.

This location is the WORST location ever. We made a reservation, they couldn’t give us a car, BUT THEY STILL CHARGED US like we were a no show. They are horrible the employees there are complete idiots. They should not even be open. I’m not surprised they have less than 3 stars.

The employee we dealt with should be fired. We had a reservation at 6:00 p.m. on January 18, 2024. We selected 6:00 p.m., as that was the suggested time in the box and it was what time we needed. However, it was a snow storm, so we couldn't travel to the location as fast as normal. We were driving from Webster City, Iowa, about an hour away. So on our way I tried calling the Ankeny Hertz and received no answer for about three times, and then finally someone answered. I explained our circumstances and indicated we would be a little after 6:00. The employee indicated he would be able to help us if we got there by 6:00, as that was the time they closed and that he would be leaving then. There was no talking him into staying just a little past 6:00 due to the snow storm. He did, however, volunteer to cancel our reservation for us. I was furious. We needed to leave that night and already had a location in Ankeny at a friend's to leave our car. So basically we were forced to scramble to find another rental car with a different company other than Hertz, which was at the Des Moines airport, and had to pay to leave our car at the airport parking. We will NEVER use the Ankeny Hertz car rental!

jonathan wasn’t nice but the mice in the car i rented were friendly. he also took a video of me driving away when i got my car back super creepy.

The manager JONATHON SNYDER goes to bars/clubs/probably other places and records women on his iPhone. A real life creep. And very known about in the Des Moines area. Kick him to the curb and find new management he probably does this to girls that come in this place too!
