There's something special about Fareway, as the combination of their phenomenal customer service, great butcher shop, and atmosphere pulls them above and beyond its competition.
This Ankeny store is no exception. It rocks, great staff throughout. A terrific young man named Ollie helped us once, another superb young man knew the store so well twice for product (wish I remembered his name), and Byron in the butcher shop gave us a pair of amazing suggestions that were elite recommendations, including his own recipe that was so delicious.

Fareway is a great Iowa company. Simple but effective. They have the best meat department. I wish they had a bit more selection of groceries. They actually take Sundays off which shows they are not just about making money. I also think they do a great job of taking high school kids and teaching the kids how to be polite, dress nice, and be helpful- this is quite rare for companies of this size to instill these traits in our youth.

I have never experienced racism until I went to Fareway today. I stood at the meat counter and they helped people they came after me. And yes, they saw me. I literally had to ask for help. Faraway do better and train your people to be kind to all no matter the color of their skin.

Nice and tidy place, organized so you can find what you need. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

Good, basic grocery store. You don't have to wander over acres and acres to find what you're looking for. No clothes or appliances or hardware...just groceries. The best part is the meat department. They have real butchers and fresh meat.

Clean store found items easily. Helpful workers. 5/30/24 store has been completely remodeled. It is wonderful. Has new items and is just great.

My only complaint is the Fareway stores are a little on the small side. They are not able to carry a wide variety of brands or brand selections. Example: they have a very small Campbell's soup section and the best Campbell's soup is the Chunky Chili with Beans and they don't carry it. This is just one of many examples. The dairy section is also very limited. They do have a great meat counter though. But...I usually end up having to go somewhere else to finish my shopping list.
