Luke from South Meadow/Artisan Ames has been the most helpful person to work with while trying to move from WI to IA for school! He is always available and offers great advice. Would highly recommend if you need help moving to Ames!

I have lived at South Meadow for 3 years and have had a great experience. You get what you pay for in terms of quality (apartments are cheaply built/maintained).
However, leasing office is always kind, understanding, and helpful. I have never been short changed or had a better agent than Christina. Maintenance has always been quick and if there fix doesn't work they comeback. Only complaints are one of our bedrooms doesn't have heating or a closet (not really a bedroom) and dryer doesn't work and has to be run over three times.

Lived there for 2 years and management/maintenence were in my apartment probably at least 50 times. Never have I lived anywhere they need to enter so much for inspections, pest control, checking the fire alarm, checking the carpet to see if they're going to need to replace it when my lease is barely half way over, checking the paint for the same reason, coming back to measure the walls when they literally have a blueprint. You also have no control over the thermostat, even though it appears like you do. I had to have my windows open in winter because the heat wouldn't stop running even though it was set to off. Then in the summer the AC unit is right by the front door and barely reaches the bedroom. On multiple occasions my neighbor was throwing her boyfriend's belongings out the window and having physical fights with her friends in the parking lot. While my neighbor above my had a confederate flag in his window and constantly yelled the N word and smoked cigarettes inside. My favorite part about living here was being across the street from Target and Walmart.

I have lived here for a year now and I loved it at first but now they are under a new company known as Artisan Ames and they are raising my rent to $700 without communication to me or each other and I owe them $900 for one missed payment! They will find a way to screw you over! Never renting through them again

I had an issue with my front door’s latch being loose/broken and Tim with maintenance was here first thing this morning. He talked me through what he could do to fix it and was very polite. He fixed my door very quickly and now it locks the way it should and I feel safe!

I lived here for about 2 years. The stuff was very understanding and efficient with work orders. They also help you collect packages.
The only con is their price being a little high (around 800$ for 1b1b) for what you get with the surroundings and appliances inside the apartment. There is also no in unit laundry as well.

I felt my questions and concerns were answered, and the showings were very useful. Kaitlyn, provided patience and a great atmosphere. I enjoyed my tour and look forward to staying with South Meadow.

Very thin walls. Repeated noise complaints to management yielded no results. Maintainance is quick and staff is nice.

I originally moved to south meadow as a sublease and love that their one bedrooms are so affordable. I live with my SO and the cost of rent split in half is incomparable any where else. Flora has been so helpful in any process we have had. Maintenance is prompt to fix issues which really raises the bar for other properties in Ames. I’m glad I resigned!

My husband, Matthew, lives here and has since 2017. Reading others reviews, I'm a bit surprised but certainly the experience can vary building by building (as some are older than others). Building 303 has been wonderful and the management has always been kind and hard working. His 3 bed, 2 bath apartment has been lovely and airy, with large rooms and in unit laundry. Not the newest washer and dryer, but they work PERFECTLY fine and the apartment is clean so that's all that matters. We do wish South Meadow was stricter with how clean the apartment has to be when moving out, because when we moved in after leaving Wessex, we had to thoroughly dust and mop down the place (which was not great because Wessex has a extremely high threshold of cleanliness and we were worn out from scrubbing that place down). Additionally, due to the previous tenant's uncleanliness (they had left crumbs of something everywhere), we moved in with grain bugs in the master bed and bath as well as the kitchen. We had our apartment regularly sprayed for over a year and a half, before something was seriously done to eliminate them. It didn't bother my husband too much, since as a grad student he was rarely home. However, whenever I visited, it was frustrating that they were still there. That being said, I want to reiterate that their apartments are super clean (we got a bit unlucky) and their management is one of the best in the area (we have tried RESGI and Wessex). The one less star is just because the change in management has caused us some frustrations, with contracts and such BUT the staff has continued to be nothing but helpful and we stand by our decision that this is one of the best places in Ames (especially because the bus is so frequent and everything is close!). Ideal for grad students and families.
