One of my grandchildren’s favorite places. Raymond Gardens and Des Moines botanical Center. Fresh air. Light. And they especially enjoy running through the water effect. And we even even caught a frog. And safely returned into his abode?

A piece of heaven in Ames. Perfect every time I visit. The people there are very friendly.The last time I visited was during a special event called Winter Wonderscape. Classical music everywhere, from Mary Poppins melodies to la la land theme music. Very Christmasy.
Named a "Top 10 Garden in North America Worth Travelling For" in 2024. Reiman Gardens, located on the Iowa State University campus next to Jack Trice Stadium, is open daily. It offers 17 acres and 26 beautiful outdoor garden areas with seasonal displays designed around a grand theme that changes each year. Sycamore Falls, with its cascading pools and waterfalls is a fan favorite. Don't forget to say hello to Elwood, the world's largest concrete gnome! Inside, visit the Hughes Conservatory with tropical plants and rotating displays, and the breathtaking Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing, holding one of the most diverse collections of live, exotic butterflies in the country.
