Although the owner is very kind, after my best friend made a purchase, I searched for the brand, and they sell the clothing for less than half of what it is priced at in the store on amazon. I only hope my review can help other college students be smart about their money and realize, as my friend did, that instead of supporting a small business that she thought she was, it still supports unethical fast fashion. I also know how hard my friend works for her money, which is why I was prompted to write this. Even if it is legal, I find it wrong to upscale and mislead college students.

I don’t live in Ames, but my sister-in-law HIGHLY recommended Portobello Road to me several months ago. I follow the store on Instagram, but finally got to visit for the first time last week. Talia helped create the BEST shopping experience I have ever had! ? She made me feel comfortable + valued as a customer. She even gave me her opinion during a try-on, which was very helpful. I normally just browse the first visit, but I liked it there so much I just had to buy something! The aesthetic is cool but welcoming. The store has a wide variety of both new + vintage clothing, decor, and accessories for every style. Portobello Road is definitely a support worthy small business! Women owned/operated too :)

MY HAPPY PLACE!! Every business owner should be like Talia. She's so friendly, inviting and excited about every customer who comes into the store. It's so obvious that she loves and cares about her work. This store is adorable - always a solid offering of trendy and timeless clothing, quirky/fun gifts, plants, accessories, etc. Sort of like Target x10000 (you go in for one thing and walk out with 30). So much thought has been put into each product and detail of the store itself. I normally have to steer myself away from boutiques because I'm a poor young person and can't afford boutique pricing, but everything here is fair, affordable, and (yes it's true) high quality. I've been shopping here since it first opened and this place has always been quality/lovely! Whenever I'm back in Ames I have to swing in. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and visit :)

Talia is such a sweet and genuine person who really enjoys both her business and customers! She goes above and beyond for each and every one of her customers. She spent an entire summer working with me on finding the best pair of mom jeans I've ever owned. Her style is impeccable and the prices are more than fair. Portobello Road is a true staple of the campustown community!

Favorite clothing store in Ames! I've talked to several of my friends who agree, and go there as well for their vintage jean shorts and unique tops & jewelry. The owner is SO nice and great at recommending outfits.

My favorite place to buy clothing in Ames. Owner is friendly and really gets to know her customers and their tastes. Also styles rotate in and out on an almost daily basis so you could drop by twice a week and never get too bored.
