I have taken my pets there several times and I have been satisfied with the care, but recently I have been struggling to get them to share my pets' vax records so that I can get them set-up with pet groomers. The first time I called, they sent me records that mentioned the vaccinations, but not expiration dates, so not useful. I contacted them 5 more times, via both phone and email, over the span of 2-3 weeks and was only able to get the records of one of my pets. I am very disappointed by this.

Love the vet named Nicole! She was very sweet and informative, my cat seemed to love her, even though my cat normally does not cooperate very well, at any vet. Definitely sticking with this place!

The staff are extremely welcoming and create a fresh environment! Coming from Texas, the hospitality felt like home. They were very thorough
during the check up and even asked about my dogs mental health- something that has never been brought up with me before! Overall great place, will be making it my dogs primary vet.

Came here for cat teeth extraction, because my normal vet didn't have dental x-ray, and this place does. The final bill was a very fair rate. Friendly, nice place. Thank you for helping out my cat!

my dog, Willow, had a possible blockage while I was on vacation and my boyfriend was watching her. I had called 2 other places and they flat out told me they did not have time. I called pmc on a saturday morning and they were so incredibly kind to me on the phone while I was panicking. since my regular vet is closed on Saturdays they squeezed us in between appointments on our first ever time with them. the receptionist was so nice and called the vet before she got to work to make sure my boyfriend could bring her. they got her in less than an hour after I called them. knowing that iowa state emergency vet can be very expensive I told them I was concerned about taking her there right away after googling that blockage surgeries can cost up to $10,000. I was never there but my boyfriend told me it was the cleanest vets office he had ever been in and said that my dog instantly felt safe with dr Nicole. I believe he said the man who helped me on the phone was isaac and he was very compassionate and it felt like he really did care. she got x-rays done and my bf said that she explained everything they were looking at and what could be the problem. they could not see an obstruction but said that she obviously had something wrong with her. she was dehydrated so they gave her a shot to hydrate her as well as an anti nausea shot to help her keep water down. she arrived at the vets office looking confused and in pain and looked noticeably better leaving. she is now doing drastically better from just this morning and it has taken a huge weight off of my shoulders coming back from a 1000 mile road trip. I could not be more impressed with pet medical center and I truly believe that they saved my girls life and saved me so much money. I called them obviously panicked and they could have done what most vets do and try to charge whatever they want. they got her problem solved for less than $500 when I thought I was going to take out a loan to get my baby surgery at iowa state. I am so grateful for this vet and what they did for my girl. I will be switching all of my pets to this vet clinic because they instantly gained my trust. thank you pet med I truly believe you saved my girl’s life.

Dr's Rosel and Oldfather are a phenomenal team and vets. They do such a great job handling our dogs and explaining anything they're seeing to us so that we can make the best choice for our pets' health. Knowing Jarod since our college years I've also gotten a chance to see how he treats animals and strives to learn how to best treat for various illnesses, diseases, or deformities. It wasn't a difficult choice on who I wanted my dogs to treated by when he moved back to Ames. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

I could not be happier with the care my pets receive at Pet Medical Center. Everyone is so kind, easy going, knowledgeable and true animal lovers. They truly are a team and treat you like a part of it. The pricing is fair, and straightforward. No surprises. I won't take my "crew" anywhere else.

They were very caring for the animals and very informative. Offered advice as well as let you know where you are doing good for your pet . They were very understanding With our anxious cat Willow-wisp and handled her very well. Isaac and Dr. Jarod were the people helping us with our appointment and were absolutely wonderful! I hope to see them next visit. The front desk person was very kind as well, and very quick and efficient making everything run smoothly, but I unfortunately forgot her name so I couldn't write it down here.

Wow. What an amazing experience. Staff worked as a great team. Everyone was extremely intelligent. Phenomenal way of explaining how to give medicine to my rabbit. Helped my rabbit, which in itself is a miracle. I drove all the way from Des Moines to see them! They were calm and patient with my rabbit. Everyone played a part to help. Great pricing. HIGHLY Recommend!

Pet Medical Center Took Away My Cat's Final Days. They have a raffle in their office for five star reviews, please read my experience. On 6/11/2024, we brought our 10-year-old cat, Stitch, to Pet Medical Center after he started limping and screaming. They diagnosed him with pleural effusion and a fractured foot, prescribing Onsior and Furosemide. Stitch soon developed severe diarrhea, stopped peeing, and his paw began bleeding. Despite our concerns, the vet assured us everything was fine. When Stitch started vomiting blood, they finally referred us to ISU ER, where we found no fluid around his lungs and learned the medication was dehydrating him and causing the issues. Further tests showed no fracture in his foot but revealed a lung mass likely indicating cancer. The misdiagnosis and improper treatment caused unnecessary suffering. They believe the cast they put on his foot restricted blood flow, causing tissue death in his paw, which was later discovered to be unnecessary as there was no fracture. Due to the news of cancer, it would be unfair to amputate his paw, and it would be unfair to keep him alive on an uncomfortable and dead foot. We are left with no choice but to put him down and believe we could have had more time with him, he is eating, drinking, and as happy as he can be, he just can no longer move on his foot. The vet offered no satisfactory explanation or compensation, only defensive responses. The owner of the practice didn't say sorry, wasn't empathetic to what happened, and spoke over me on the phone. Stitch's final days were filled with unnecessary pain due to their negligence. We could have had more time with him if his foot was healthy. Be cautious and consider this experience when choosing care for your pets, especially for complex issues. He was truly the best cat and I hope I can prevent this from happening to somebody else.
