Stayed here for “free” for 1 night on our road trip because my husband had points for it. Will never stay here again. Not even for free.

I wanted to express appreciation to the staff at the 16th St/Dayton Ave Econolodge. They were very respectful and accommodating. The rooms were nice and clean and the continental breakfast was ample. I will stay there again when I come back through Ames! Thanks to the staff at this Econolodge.Rooms: Nice, neat and clean. Nice TV. And a working phone.Safety: No worries here.

Extremely unlikely that we will ever stay here again. It appeared that the only thing done between guests was make the bed. The first room we were in was disgusting. There was hair all over everything, and the toilet was full of feces and what looked like a whole roll of toilet paper. I let the receptionist know and he promptly moved us to a different room. The next room wasn’t any better. There were used towels still in the bathroom and an opened and used bar of soap on the sink. The toilet again was not clean at all.We stayed here for the Iowa vs Iowa State game so the room rates were elevated. Which is completely understandable. What isn’t acceptable is charging $220 for rooms that don’t even have as much as a toilet wipe down. I don’t have high expectations walking into an Econolodge, but this was a bit ridiculous considering the price. At checkout I informed the receptionist that the second room was not clean either. I was told that I should have let him know and we could have switched rooms… Again… If the first two rooms were that way, I’m fairly certain a third room would have been the same result.

The receptionist woman was very nice. Room had a very strong chemical smell for bugs I thinks. Left the windows open for a few hours before going in. Bed itself was new and clean and room was clean. No coffeemakers. Older Indian woman came out while I was booking and asked if everything was “ok” with the receptionist? I think their used to a rougher crowd

I stayed here because everything else was sold out. The room that was offered to me was pretty dirty and not up to par. The bed was very rough - you could feel the springs. There was paint missing from the walls, the chair was stained and also there was hair in the bathtub. I contacted the property to see if they would be willing to compensate for this and they said that I could have switched rooms when according to Expedia they only had one room left and the other hotels in the area were sold out. I will not be a returning customer that is for sure! The manager didn't seem to be willing to work with me and couldn't offer me any sort of reimbursement.

Clean rooms..quiet if you are on 2nd floor ....good free breakfast....only complaint is the tub had no stopper....but went and asked at desk and they provided a universal stopper.

This hotel has been absolutely amazing ! The staff are immensely friendly and the manager here has gone above and beyond ! The room we got was very clean and large enough for both of our cats. The breakfast here is pretty good too. I was eating breakfast one day and the manager came and spoke to me and even remembered my name despite the 30+ other guests that were here. We stayed an extra week instead of going somewhere else and we will be staying another week here again ! Highly recommend this hotel !!!!Only wish I could have a coffee pot in the room lol ?

Tell me that you have no intention of spending a penny on maintenance and repairs, without telling me that you don’t intend to spend a penny on maintenance and repairs.Worst hotel experience in decades. First impression is the heavy smell of curry like you would find in an ethnic restaurant. That permeates the hallways and is complemented by the 30 year old dirty carpeting in the hallways. When we initially checked in, we were given a room on the side of the hotel that faces the interstate. Very loud. Before we unpacked into the room, the staff accommodated a request to change to the quiet side of the hotel. I am grateful for that. The room doors, like most hotels, are self closing. These particular doors do not soft-close, and when they slam shut in neighboring rooms, the wall shakes, and it will wake you up from a deep sleep. There are several nonfunctioning amenities in the hotel: luggage cart, ice maker (see photo). The bathroom in our room was disgusting and is in major need of a renovation. Rusty light fixture, missing hand bar in the shower, no towel bar or hook, light/fan fixture dangling open in the ceiling. Water stains on ceilings. No Kleenex or coffee maker. They advertise a free breakfast, but you will find better fare at a gas station . They didn’t even have hot water to make tea.For the price, I did not expect a five star hotel experience, but I expected things to be clean and functioning.I know that EconoLodge is a value brand, but I find it hard to believe that the licensee would allow such conditions in a hotel with their name on it.If you choose to stay here, consider getting a tetanus shot.

Most Econolodge hotels are below average. This location didn’t disappoint. Beds are super comfy, pillows are even good, nice spacious room, very clean, quiet, right off 35 & 30. Few food places and gas close. Good hot water pressure ??Rooms: Spacious. Clean. Comfortable

Clean room. Comfortable enough bed to get a decent sleep. Great TV and WiFi. Good water pressure. No coffee maker in the room. The fridge worked great, but the microwave did not. Tried calling front desk and phone didn’t work. Bedside clock was unplugged, but did not work when plugged in. No real protein offerings at breakfast. Sausage gravy was offered, along with with the a plethora of bread and pastry selections. Price was good for what was given.

Economical, clean, and friendlyWhen you're travelling on a budget and just want a clean, quiet hotel room, then I can say this is perfect. Unfortunately, to get the minifridge and microwave, I had to upgrade to the handicap suite which added $20/night, but it was worth it for one night. The younger kids ended up using the pool and it was perfect for them (3-5ft). Overall, this place was very clean, safe, and quiet compared to many other places I've stayed.Expect the breakfast to be continental style (no eggs or sausage) too.Not sure what the regular rooms are like, but I will probably try a different hotel next time if staying multiple nights. $20/night for a microwave/fridge is probably too much to pay for multiple nights and no hot breakfast (eggs/sausage).

It's not a good breakfast, but the rooms are pretty standard with cable. However, the phones are not hooked up in the rooms. Good prices and right off the highway.Nearby activities: Close to restaurants and a main strip in Ames.

Our 'smoke free' room reeked of smoke. We were looking under the bed for earbuds and found a cigarette butt and lots of dirt... Hasn't been swept in a long time.Wanted to use the pool but the owners' kids were all over it so we didn't go back after the first night.I don't think I will be using an Econolodge any time soon.

We reserved two rooms here six months ago, for September 2nd and 3rd because of game day rates and availability usually being high and unavailable anywhere else. This will be the last time we stay here. We expect it to be simple rooms with the basics due to what kind of hotel it is, but the minimum expected wasn't even here. The rooms were filthy and damaged, the AC cover fell off at night, when it actually worked. The microwave and clock/radio was missing, the phone didn't work, the smoke detector was covered with a plastic bag either because someone previously smoked in here or some form of malfunctioning unit, the bathtub was full of hair and looked like it hasn't been properly cleaned in months and it would not drain so we got to take a bath while showering. The worst part was waking up to everything in the room feeling damp and smelling musty.
