“My daughter (an ISU student not very familiar with the Ames area) brought her car to Mike's for a scraping sound. (I had searched the Internet, and, finding a number of good ratings about Mike's, I called them in advance.) She said that everyone was super nice and that the staff quickly found the problem (which, thankfully, turned out to be a minor issue), and they fixed her car for free! So nice of them!!! I had just come off a month of replacing my radiator, all four tires, a partially broken phone, and a refrigerator, so I was very grateful for no additional expenses -- and for this shop's honesty and helpfulness! Awesome!”

“Car X in Ames is the best car shop I’ve been to. Any problems & they got it. The manager Danny is a down to earth really good person & all the staff are nice people too.
This weekend my car randomly started shaking while accelerating & I brought it in first thing Monday. They were super busy, all bays full getting work done & Danny & a crew member stopped what they were doing to diagnose the problem, which was just a bad wire. They fixed the wire for free since it was a small issue but it really meant a lot they’d stop what they’re doing to help me. Plus, the wire they replaced actually turned off a few other lights of mine that have been bugging me but I wasn’t sure how to turn them off.
Great shop, great people. Car X has my business and I encourage everyone else to take their car maintenance needs there as well ??”

“They did an excellent job repairing hail damage on my vehicle. They finished ahead of schedule and on budget. There were some tape lines and adhesive patches left on the vehicle that were hard to remove but the work was done well.
They even vacuumed out the front feet wells. Just a detail but one appreciated.”

“I'm staying in Ames while my mother is in the hospital here. My regular mechanic is in Chicago. I heard a loud noise coming from under my car every time I went over a speed bump in the hospital parking ramp. Took my car to Macky's and asked if they could look at it. A very nice man immediately came out to the parking lot, looked under my car and was able to fix the problem (heat shield had come loose) in a few minutes. He very nicely explained everything to me, made a recommendation to have my mechanic take a look at it when I get back to Chicago, and I was back on the road with no more funny noises a few minutes later. Great experience--definitely would go back if I had another car problem while in Ames.”

“I have brought my car here three times and I have had a excellent experience each time. The first time they accidentally messed up the AC system (while replacing something unrelated). I picked up the car late on a Friday evening, so their mechanics were out and it couldn't get fixed until Monday. They helped me out and loaned me a car (for free) for the weekend. The second time they went out of their way to get a replacement radiator delivered in time before I left for a road trip. The third time they spent 3 days trying to diagnosis an issue I thought had but they couldn't replicate, and they didn't charge me for it.
What you get here are honest mechanics who charge a fair price and take care of their customers. 10/10 would recommend.”

“Making a review in hopes that it'll give someone else some assurance since I didn't see any regarding this particular service!
I had my EGR Valve replaced on a 2008 Pontiac Torrent. Average time (according to Google) is 1.5hrs and the same frame was given when I dropped my car off; picked it up sooner than that with 30 min shaved off (granted the EGR Valve is easily accessible for my make & model) and the price is pretty fair I think ($136 pre-tax & $145 after). However, I did buy the part myself at a different automotive store so your guesstimate might be different. Pretty at ease overall, straightforward & in and out. Car sounds and feels like it's better already.”

“I can't say enough good about the folks at Freedom Tire!! With both daughters going to ISU, I have worked multiple times with them. Over the last few years, I have put on a set of tires, a complete brake job and numerous oil changes. Today I was moving one daughter 4 hours away to start her career post ISU. We picked up a nail and had a flat right before we were ready to head out. Under the circumstances, they worked us in early and got us back on the road!! “We had 3 vehicles that needed routine oil changes, we were tired of taking them to a quick shop to have it done so we googled places in Ames & found Fix It Auto & liked what we read under the reviews, so we made an appointment & were extremely happy with their services, they are very thorough. On 1 of our vehicles they found a few things that needed attention & communicated that to us & gave us the option to have them go ahead & replace these things or wait, on the 2nd vehicle they found something that was totally empty so they went ahead & pressure tested it & put fluid back in it & explained to us what they found & told us to keep an eye on it (very appreciative) we bring our 3rd vehicle in this week, we feel we found a place that cares & that will help us maintain our vehicles & the other nice thing is they were very reasonable on the pricing for their services & we will continue to take our vehicles to them.”
