Extremely frustrated to the point I'd like to just move away, even though I already have! I went here due to a friend saying it's great, well it isn't for me. Extremely busy every time I go (sometimes 2, sometimes 6-7), when I started I went to the south main location and that was a mess, 6 squat racks isn't enough and if there's one open people race to it, same with free weights. Started going to the north location and its almost the same way, super busy plus less equipment than south. So on to the contract. For one why does a gym have a contract? I've never been to a gym with a contract, YMCA, anytime, strength shop ect. Why are you giving highschool/ college students contracts? So after not understanding the contract and still signing up (because I thought it would be a nice open gym and I'd stay), let me tell ya it's super hard to get out of it. Even after moving 25 miles away they still won't let me go! YOU HAVE TO MOVE 50 MILES AWAY, you could move all the way to Webster city and still have to come to Ames fitness. Completely stupid! It's so inconvenient for me now having moved away further from Ames and still being locked into this place. So thanks Brett Halverson for denying my request. I will try and let everyone I know not to come to Ames fitness. This gym is my worst nightmare. Do yourself a favor, go to strength shop, planet fitness or just something else.. All have no commitment.

Not as packed as the North or South location which is pretty nice! Has everything you need, just limited when it comes to rack, this is not really a big factor as there aren't as many people that go to this gym. Has a nice intimate feel and if you're the kid of person who doesn't like to be around a lot of people (thats not me) this is the gym for you! The only way to get in is you need to get a key fob that costs $5 (price may have gone up), this allows one to access this gym whenever. It's the only gym open 24/7. Some of the equipment is pretty worn as well as the locker room. It does have a steam room and you need your fob to get in the locker rooms as well! You can get the fob at the south gym and that may be the only place you can get it.

It's small and basic but has about everything you'd need for a basic workout

I've been loving the track at south and the pool at north. The staff is always welcoming and the facility clean. So glad to have found a great place to train.

Been going to ARF for 5 years now. Great place to get a workout. West location is my least favorite but it's great being able to go 24hours. If you have the chance do check out the new south location.

I got personally disappointed of many people there working and customers as well. If you like people to tell you the truth upfront, not the right place. Now you decide for yourself

You can't even enter the building without a keyfob. Once inside you are met with an extremely underwhelming selection of equipment that includes exactly 1 squat rack. Honestly I'm surprised this location is owned by the same company that owns the south location. One visit was more than enough for both me and my wife.
