Great place to get a workout. Friendly staff, plenty of equipment, many classes and personal trainers.

Nice variety of machines available but the cleanliness is gross. This goes for all 3 locations, in Ames. Dusty equipment, vents, dust bunnies rolling across the floor constantly, locker room is always gross. Need a regular janitor/cleaner for sure.

What equipment they have is good quality, but is seriously lacking some very basic pieces: No standing calf machine - required for good calf development. (It is NOT okay to do calves on a leg press - very unsafe) No ordinary tricep dip bars - just a dip/pullup machine that people pile weight disks on to hold down to do regular tricep dips. It's surprising that owners/mgr allow this dangerous practice. No hack machine. No prone leg curl. No prone flye machine. There is a (cardio) rowing machine, so that's nice. The front desk people are nice but the mgr misrepresented to get my friend to join and refused me the discounted rate I qualify for. There is a little 4 -lane pool, but you have to reserve times/lanes up to a week in advance. Users are supposed to share their lanes but this leads to arguements because they don't want to and this isn't enforced. There are seniors and others wearing diapers that are allowed to use the pool. When I saw that I knew I wouldn't be using that pool. The best thing to be said about this gym is that it isn't PlanetFitness.

Extremely frustrated to the point I'd like to just move away, even though I already have! I went here due to a friend saying it's great, well it isn't for me. Extremely busy every time I go (sometimes 2, sometimes 6-7), when I started I went to the south main location and that was a mess, 6 squat racks isn't enough and if there's one open people race to it, same with free weights. Started going to the north location and its almost the same way, super busy plus less equipment than south. So on to the contract. For one why does a gym have a contract? I've never been to a gym with a contract, YMCA, anytime, strength shop ect. Why are you giving highschool/ college students contracts? So after not understanding the contract and still signing up (because I thought it would be a nice open gym and I'd stay), let me tell ya it's super hard to get out of it. Even after moving 25 miles away they still won't let me go! YOU HAVE TO MOVE 50 MILES AWAY, you could move all the way to Webster city and still have to come to Ames fitness. Completely stupid! It's so inconvenient for me now having moved away further from Ames and still being locked into this place. So thanks Brett Halverson for denying my request. I will try and let everyone I know not to come to Ames fitness. This gym is my worst nightmare.Do yourself a favor, go to strength shop, planet fitness or just something else.. All have no commitment.

I left town and put my $700 membership on hold, only to return and they say it's expired. Because they never entered it in the computer!

Very nice, clean gym. The machines are quite a bit nicer than other gym options in Ames.

I've been coming here for years and loved that a way was found to open swimming lanes up when covid hit. At first it seemed like every time I visited, people could be found wiping things down and doing a great job, making us feel safe in the pool. Lately, it appears this has stopped. I saw clumps of hair near a pool deck drain that I had seen last time I was there...Why the change? I no longer feel as safe!! I've seen no cleaning the last few weeks!

seems like during the day there's no one cleaning machines or cleaning period why was there people cleaning when you opened back up and now there isn't anyone during the day you think you have someone there all day during covid -19.

The pool is tiny. Only 4 lanes and 5 feet deep. Lane sharing is uncoordinated and awkward. Children sometimes take up half the pool.A pool so small should only be reserved for adults

This is nonsense, closing the gym abruptly . Not that I wanted to be around other dirty people before but for goodness sake, closing big enterprises at the peak of troubled time is asking for market of consequence.

Pretty nice gym! Great classes, specifically the class led by Mackenzie (I think it is called insanity). Nice clean pool, no basketball court though.

The gym equipment is okay, but they have terrible service. I wanted a particular kind of weight and since I was new there, I couldn't find it. I asked the person at reception and she was not at all helpful and didn't even assist me as to where I could have looked for it. I'm going back to my old gym, I don't think I want to come back here!
