High Amana General Store, established in 1857, is a true living museum that offers visitors a unique glimpse into the past. Its exterior and interior have remained largely unchanged over the years, featuring original elements such as the tin ceiling, wooden floors, and glass-topped display cases. The store is filled with interesting, hard-to-find trinkets, treasures from days gone by, and a wide variety of gift and food items, toys, books, housewares, and handmade soaps, all at reasonable prices. Visitors appreciate the rich history and craftsmanship of the store, with knowledgeable staff who provide friendly and informative service. Walking through the store feels like stepping back 100 years to rural Iowa from the early 20th century. Many describe it as an incredible experience, likening it to a museum, and recommend stopping by if in the area to enjoy this authentic, historic shopping experience.
We really enjoyed looking around at all of the history and interesting merchandise. Many things are made locally.

An incredibly cozy back in time experience. It's part Museum, part old fashioned store. There was a nice selection of new old fashioned toys as well as local handmade products to purchase.

Quaint place. All original. Lady was. Sort of annoying.
