I have only good - no, make that great - things to say about Richard Ash and Folkcraft Instruments. They build top-notch instruments (I know, because I have several of them), and they are always thinking 'ahead of the curve', making innovative changes in dulcimer design. Not only that, but their service is *above* the ceiling. I give them *six* stars (out of five).

Richard Ash is very personable and spent a great deal of time sitting with me one on one going through numerous dulcimers to be sure I was getting the proper dulcimer for me. He was even willing to come in on a day off if I needed since I was coming from Michigan. It was such a good experience that I brought my neighbor down to purchase one a few months later. A tour of the facility was an added bonus and very enlightening. Thank you!

No hype necessary; just honest to goodness people making honest to goodness instruments. I don't own one of their dulcimers - I build instruments myself - but I've bought top quality tonewood from Folkcraft, attended their wonderful music workshops, and had a chance to peak 'behind the scenes' and it's top notch craftsmanship all the way. An excellent resource to the music community all the way.

Beautiful instruments, a pleasure to play. I bought a “Folkroots D” dulcimer a year or so ago and just bought a custom-made resonator dulcimer, a gorgeous way to add “slide” to playing dulcimer. Mr. Ash is very kind and helpful so even purchasing these instruments online felt personal, and these dulcimers are sweet, exactly what I wanted.

Beautiful craftsmanship on everything in the store! Knowledgeable personnel. If folk music and folk instruments are your thing and you're serious ditch the big box stores in the area and see the Folkcraft store. Well worth the trip to Woodburn, IN.

My first personal dulcimer (other than the one I inherited from my dad, which was made in the 50's) was a Folkcraft made in 1984 that I purchased on EBay for $34. It still has a sweet mellow tone to this day. I have continued to purchase Folkcraft instruments over the years for their beauty and consistent excellent quality. Early this year I received a magnificent Folkcraft lacewood “courting†dulcimer from Richard Ash, the owner of the company, when he asked me to marry him. I don't have to pay cash for my instruments any more, but payment IS extracted in lasagna and cookies, and maybe some time working in the shop. I can verify that this truly is a family company which puts thought and care into every step of the process of their instrument crafting!
