As I pulled into the parking lot of the local First Merchants Bank, there was plenty of parking with disabled parking available. I entered the bank and it was clean and tidy with a warm happy inviting feelingI I was given a warm welcome by the staff. There was an operational coin counting machine for customers convenience. The waiting area was set up like a living room with a rug, Large TV, comfortable chairs, coffee table with plenty of light. I have dogs and they enjoy going through the drive-thru as the tellers give them a treat!! I love the home town feel when I Bank with First Merchants Bank. They surely earned their five star review!

I cannot stress enough...Do not use this company for your mortgage. I bought 3 homes through First Merchant last year. They kept one loan and sold the other three. I sent my first, Dec 2018, payment for the one loan they kept with the loan number on the check and the payment coupon. In early January, I had still not received any statements or documents from First Merchants regarding this loan. I called customer service to find our where we make the January payment because I hadn't received anything from them via mail. She notified me that everything was mailed to the property. I told her that I had bought all three homes non-owner occupied and that they should have been sending the statement to my mailing address. She corrected the address and emailed the statements a day or two later. When I received the PDF I saw that there were delinquency notices and notice of foreclosure. Customer Service never told me about any of this on my initial call. I immediately checked my checking account to see if the payment I sent was cashed. It was. I saved a copy of the cashed check showing the date and emailed it to my loan officer Charrise. Charisse passed me back off to customer service. Customer service later responds via email (see photo). We accidentally applied your payment to one of the other accounts that we sold to Citizens and sent it to them, we'll get it from them and get back to you. I then asked, was a 30 day late submitted to the credit agencies? She says that it was and that they would delete that and the late fees. I get no word on the status for over a week and call customer service again and after going through multiple people finish with Jacob. Jacob reviews everything and says he will handle it. The next day, on a recorded line, he tells me that everything was absolutely First Merchants fault and that they would take care of it. I confirmed that he meant that the account was now considered to be up to date and that nothing further was owed. He said yes and that he'd call me by Wed to let me know it was all settled. Monday 2/4 comes around and I received ANOTHER notice in the mail saying my account is past due. I call and speak to Shea in the credit department who says she will reach out to Jacob in customer service to find out what happened. I call and leave a message for Jacob to call me, the customer service rep who I talked to told me that Jacob was working on it as we spoke and would get back to me by 5:00 pm PST that day. As of this morning I still had not heard from Jacob. Shea in the credit department just called to tell me that "There is nothing we can do" the other company wont give back the payment we sent them, so you need to make another payment to bring your account current. I asked for contact information for the VP in charge of lending and was denied. I asked for a manager and was sent to voicemail. Its almost 30 days later and no one has helped me, they have ruined my credit (from a 720 to a 613) and cost me more than they know. During all of this I was in the middle of trying to get financing and with the credit delinquency I was denied. No one has been proactive in getting this done. I was told that my account was current and the only reason I found it wasn't AGAIN is because I called again. My loan officer was completely hands off. Im not one to post, but I truly believe that I should share the overall incompetency and the complete lack of customer service from this company. I fully plan on copying and pasting this everywhere possible until someone resolves this.. Its really sad that it has to come down to me publicly blasting them!!!

Recently sold a house where First Merchants was the mortgage lender. The closing company confirmed wiring them the money, however they have continued to bill me and indicate they have no record of receiving the payment. While I'm sure this is just grievous incompetence and not a literally criminal Wells Fargo style attempt to blatantly steal money from a customer, and will probably be resolved without me having to resort to actual legal threats, I'm still gonna go with 1 star for having to spend hours on the phone with this bank talking to person after person who could not verify whether on not they received a federally insured wire transfer and who refused to just cancel auto pay on the mortgage that should no longer exist. Update: 72 hours and they have confirmed that they received $172000 to pay off the mortgage but refuse to confirm to me that they have closed the loan, still have not confirmed that they have stopped the automatic billing, and still have not refunded me the $1900 that they charged after the loan was paid off. I retract my certainty that this is all just incompetence. They may just be very intentionally stealing money from customers. Stay away. Update: 1 week, still haven't returned my money.

Give it a 4 right now, still waiting to see how the transition of losing Tiffany will work out. Tiffany has been with us since day 1. She will be missed. Happy for her promotion.

While there have been some changes in staff since the transfer to First Merchants, the team is still pretty friendly. Rob and Janet are still there with big smiles. Rob goes out of his way to talk to folks when they come in. It really feels like a friendly neighborhood spot.

What brought me to Ameriana bank was Rob's Garretts involvement in the community, what has keep me there is the people and service. The change over to First Merchants Bank brought additional products and services that were not available to my business before, and new faces that now call me by name. I am getting to know the new faces quickly. Rob Garrett & Ryan Mooney are building a great team while keeping the local small town feel yet bringing big bank offerings. I like doing business with people I know like and trust. I have found that with Rob, Ryan, Stephanie and the rest of the team are that for me.

I was hoping for an improvement when FMB took over Community Bank. No such luck. They continue make errors and then they drop them into the hands of the customer to pay for. Definitely time to change banks.
