February 2022 by Brittany Griffin
So at times I know I can be a bit much, however some circumstances cause for a true reaction, I am doing this because parents/guardians need real time reviews on places they consider for everyday care.My toddler son has been in Wee Care Child Development Center in Valparaiso IN since November 22, 2021. Yesterday February 10, 2022 my son had a diarrhea movement at 2pm, 3:15pm and again at 3:30pm, seems excessive I know however he is currently cutting a total of 4 new teeth so if it isn't obvious by now he is teething for those who may not understand what that means. An illness report was filled out and I was contacted by phone on his behalf immediately following the last bowel movement. That call was to inform me of his many poopies and that he was now out of changes of clothing as he had messed up each change of clothes because of how (explosive) the poopies were. Of course I came to retrieve my son as soon as I could following the end of my work shift. They sent him home with all of his belongings and the report included below stated he cannot return to school until Monday February 14th "Symptom free". Now how you determine symptom free for a teether I can't begin to explain. Needless to say I got him up and dressed this morning for school. Once we arrived the young ladies there looked at us as though they'd seen a ghost??♀️ asking for a doctor's note and that he could not attend school without one. I said but why? As there is nothing wrong with him, (apparently instructors that are not medically licensed) can diagnose an illness??. I said so am I to assume there will be a days credit for you refusing his attendance today? "the DIRECTOR" told me well sure there should be a credit from last week (since they couldn't get their teachers in due to snow) regardless of my still having to attend work in that same snow. I said okay great but that was last week and an entirely different circumstance. I mean you refuse attendance 2/11/2022, will there be a credit for today because there's no way I will pay for meals, activity and learning instructions if my son is sitting at home with me while I'm losing money for calling off work. The young lady at that point told me period "he could not attend without a doctor's note as this is their policy, she would have someone reach out to me". I left with my son and had to wait 30 minutes for the pediatrician to open at 8 to get him in for a diagnosis. Called in they asked why we needed to come in and got us the earliest appointment they could accommodate. Got there and the doctor looked at me like I was crazy and stated they had never heard of such things, apologized for me having to come in for something so silly but gave me a note none the less. I returned to the daycare with my son and his note that read "child can return, no illness diarrhea because of teething" that ¼ inch piece of paper cost me a $20 copay and 4 hours of PTO time. As the ladies that care for my son seem like great women they are not getting to him quick enough for a changing to ensure he doesn't mess his clothes because this is never an issue at home but only at school. These are things people need to know regarding the facilities they are reviewing for childcare. $840 per month is what I pay out of pocket with now government assistance for this type of care??????
