Downtown SB is dirty, outdated equipment, and unkept. Ac is constantly broken. Use to be great, but now we just get excuses, excuses, excuses! Only good thing is some of the staff.

Prefer the old one. You could look out on the east race while on treadmill. Just preferred the atmosphere. Sorry.

I'm thankful for how it's always there to get to. I love the people who are interested in the heart of the exercise for good health! Thanks Margaret

This is the only gym that's available around the downtown area where I can walk or bike there. It's very convenient for people that work in downtown. So convenient that I actually go! The free weight and machines sections could cover more space, but the other amenities (pool, sauna, racquetball court, indoor track, etc) make up for that. Even though I just use the free weights and the racquetball court, I understand that this is a mixed used health facility - NOT a gym. There's a lot of different people going there to get healthy in different ways. Lifting weights is not the only way. The weights section is adequate for me, but I've heard other people complain (only one squat rack). The shower and locker room areas are tight, but what do you expect from a downtown gym? Oh, and free coffee in the morning!

I have been an active member of this gym for over a year- you'll find me here 5-6 days a week, every week. That being said, I feel like I have a pretty informed opinion on the overall experience. Before moving to South Bend, I had a YMCA membership in Indianapolis I used religiously on the north side of town and was very happy with, so that is what I use as my base for comparison. Pros: Very nice locker rooms. Like, very nice. They provide essentially all the basics- shampoo, conditioner, body wash, mouth wash, lotion, razors, Q-tips, etc. There is a hot tub and sauna inside the locker room, and all separate stalls for showers with private space for changing. I feel very safe in this gym, comfortable enough to be able to walk away from my things for a few minutes and leave it unsupervised if I need to use the restroom or whatever. They also have locks you can borrow for your locker if you don't have one. They have a lap pool, offer a nice variety of classes, and their staff is friendly and helpful. The equipment is all fairly new and in good working condition, plus this gym is a kid-free gym, so there are no little ones running underfoot (I love kids, but not in the gym). There is childcare available for those who need it. There are a lot of treadmills, bikes, stair machines, ellipticals, rowing machines, and other cardio equipment. You'll also find a full weight machine circuit, 2 bench presses (almost always open), a smith machine, several cable machines, plenty of free weights, rubber plates for deadlifts, and more, as well as a track that goes around the entire second floor. Cons: The pool is very small- really only good for a few people at a time, so if you want to swim, you have to hope you chose a good time to come. Only one squat rack, which is sometimes occupied for 30 minutes or more. On rare occasions I have received unwanted suggestions from a couple of staff members regarding my exercises (incorrect suggestions which actually encouraged improper and unsafe form). Aside from those isolated incidences, most of their staff is well-informed and always willing to show you how to use equipment when you ask. For those who have to pay full price, membership is very expensive. Overall, I am satisfied with my experience thus far at this gym. They are also in the process of building a second location on the north side which will be even bigger and nicer, so I am very much looking forward to that. I continually recommend this gym to my friends, so be sure to check it out!

Great facility: clean, modern, nice people. Used to come here 25 years ago with my dad! Now when I come back to visit him, I've got a place to go to burn off stress, jet lag and Rocco's pizza. you can pay for single visits here; don't have to be a member. Good sauna and treadmills especially. Free tea/coffee in the waiting area in the front. Even better than it was in 1990.

Steep prices and unexperienced staff. No one was at first desk when I arrived. Finally 2 untrained front desk attendants appeared. Unbelievably, I was told there was no student discounts. Was charged full price entry when facility was only open for 40 minutes longer Won't be returning here anytime soon.

They really think of it all when it comes to this place! This is definitely the place to be if you value an active and healthy lifestyle and want to feel at home in a gym. The trainers monitor your progress and help you with your goals. There is a pool, indoor track, aerobics classes, and lots of nice equipment and weights.

Extremely clean and well thought out gym space. Helpful staff. Nothing I can think to put negatively.
