Before working here or bringing your children here read this:This facility lacks structure. As a previous employee, I can ensure you that this facility is terrible. The management is bad as well. After school care room is probably the worst room there. The kids are constantly yelled at and mistreated, especially the minority children. The kids were constantly complaining to me about their teacher. And I see why. I brought the issue up to her superiors and nothing was done about it. Teachers are on their phones, FaceTiming their boyfriends, etc. I was a summer help employee, and I quit. They would not pay me the same as the other summer help and hawked it up to “my major” which is psychology and pre-med. Which is an invalid reason. I have hospital experience. I am a second year college student. One of the employees getting paid more than I, was fresh out of high school and had been working there slightly before she graduated. I applied over a month before I started, due to a summer class. The unequal pay, I found out on accident. I have an internship at a lovely hospital with great staff. Where I take vitals, weight, temp, height, the whole nine yards. Evaluate why the patient is in, etc. I am a minority as well, and they completely discriminated against me and this will for sure be reported. For a place called friend’s it is the complete opposite of friendly. The kids are amazing, so cute. They do not deserve to be treated the way they are and I made to be extremely kind to them all. In fact, on my last day a handful of them cried. I couldn’t take seeing African American kids being treated the way they are. But it wasn’t exclusive to minority children, all of them suffer some kind of bad treatment. That is however, mostly in the after school care/summer camp section. It hurt to leave those kids but I refused to work in a discriminatory environment where teachers are favored. Also. They expect you to stay over and clean but don’t pay you. Because they didn’t hire a new cleaning company after one flopped. When you sign out, even if it is after 6 P. M. it says “you will be checked out at 6:00 P. M.” Which I’m pretty sure is fraud? Anyways, they waited over a week to go over the handbook with me, but we did not finish going over it. So I was told I would be emailed a copy, which I was not. After I brought up the unequal pay I was told to bring my transcripts, which is also not needed considering the fact I brought in my deans list certificate from this last semester. Which is something I receive every semester. I don’t even want to get into the lack of cleanliness. Teacher don’t wear shoes all the time, don’t always wear gloves, oh and they don’t spray the cots with bleach water everyday. The toys don’t get cleaned very often either. Let’s not forget maggots being in the sandbox and the children being told it is “natural”. I’ve never seen such stupidity. I made sure to tell all of them, it is NOT natural and to NOT pick them off. Animals were doing their business in the sandboxes, and children were picking up the solidified poop!! Disgusting! It’s so sad. I couldn’t believe how outrageous it was. I don’t think management passed middle school science class! Completely unsanitary. Some teachers really do give their best effort though and they deserve recognition for that. In all of this I forgot to mention, they attempted to withhold my check. They lied about it as well. I went to pick up my last one on payday, and the director swore she didn’t have it. Which is already a problem. So I went BACK that same Friday and she said she did not have it again. She lied and I have her text to prove it! Saying she was authorized to distribute my check and I could come BACK AGAIN to pick up my check. Overall it’s a horrid place to work and bring your kids. Make sure you all are asking your kids how their day really wash and asking questions. Because kids won’t always tell you unless you ask. I documented and observed everything that was done to me, and the unsanitary conditions your children are in. That’s all.

I highly recommend Friends Early Learning Center. Clara Stalvey, the owner is a caring and very approachable person. Dani Lawrence as the new Director, is always present and very supportive of her staff, the children, and their families. She is a welcome addition! Congratulations to the great staff at Friends on maintaining the highest, Level 4, Paths to Quality rating.

We absolutely love Friends! Our daughter has been going there since she was four months old and she is now almost 2 1/2. They do a great job of having fun activities, thoughtful lesson plans and working with each individual child’s skill set.Recently, our son has started going to Friends in December. He is 5 months old now and can show emotion, and he absolutely lights up every day we drop him off to both Ms Amys. I am so thankful for such loving ladies. I also like that the infant room is beautiful, bright and very interactive for the first year of development. They also use the Brightwheel app so we are able to see what our children are doing each day/pics/videos and all activity - gives great peace of mind.Overall, we are very happy with Friends. My husband and I had visited many daycare facilities around town when we first started looking. We chose Friends because of the warm and welcoming feeling it had and we just knew it would be a good fit for our family.Thank you Clara and your team for providing such a safe and happy environment for our babies.

I just wanted to mention that my two daughters attended Friends and experienced the highest standard of care and nurturing. The teachers encouraged their development, and prepared them for school. Ms. Amy, Ms. Heathers, and Ms. Jasmine have touched our hearts and I will forever remember their hard work and kindness, and for giving my children one-one attention, crucial to their social and emotional development. Much love to the friends and the staff at Friends Early Learning Center.

Definitely would not recommend due to the obvious lack of professionalism and regard for child's well-being!!!

Our daughter started at Friends when she was 8 weeks old and remained there until she was 15 months old. We had such a wonderful experience sending our daughter there. She was loved and was very well cared for. They have an app you can download where they can share pictures with you, note what and when baby ate, etc. With our daughter being our first kid, we didn’t know what to expect and they helped coach us along. They helped her work toward whatever goal we were working on at home. We no longer need childcare and were so sad to pull her away from her friends but we would choose them again if we need childcare.

In 2010, my family moved back to South Bend and we began our search for a high quality child care option for our infant. We selected Friends School and Day Care and we are very pleased with our choice. Both of our children now attend Friends and we know they are in a safe environment with teachers who care about our children and their education. From a young age, the children learn to interact with others, problem solve, communicate and be creative. Whether it is growing a summer garden with classmates, reading books, playing outside or working on an art project, the kids at Friends are having fun while learning. I am incredibly thankful to everyone at Friends for providing a safe and effective learning environment for my children.
