I’ve brought my pets to the Animal Hospital of Richmond for the last 5 years since moving to Richmond. They have always been kind, caring and compassionate. They are wonderful in follow up phone calls, even after hours, and are genuinely interested in the well being of your pet. There have been many times where their staff have gone above and beyond to share their compassion in the loss of my previous pets as well as in care of my current ones. I am so thankful that I can count on them whenever my fur babies need anything. I highly recommend them!

They have treated our furry family members with grace and dignity for years. Most recently as we brought in our Penny to be cremated. Staff handle these events so well.

I just finished up an appointment as a new client and I'm left with mixed opinions and have decided that, once my pets lab results are in, I won't be continuing with the office.
The good: I found the front desk staff to be kind and responsive. I was able to get in fairly quickly, though I ended up waiting quite a while to see a tech or the vet. Ultimately, I received some support for the issue I originally saw the vet for.
The bad: While doing the exam on my dog, he jumped and turned around on the vet. He did not bite, snarl, growl, or show any signs of aggression. She was quick to label him reactive and continued to use that language throughout the exam and it significantly shifted the tenor of the visit. She had said we need to include lots of notes on how to handle him. When I said he had been groomed, she asked how it went and before I could even respond, she said it couldn't have gone well given his response to her. I felt that, as soon as that happened, he was treated differently and not in a way that would have calmed his anxiety or mine.
Yes, my dog did jump and turn when she touched his abdomen, but he didn't display any similar behavior the remainder of the visit nor has he in the past in any situation.
Even if the dog was reactive, the response was bad. Period. A vet should work to ramp down anxiety, not to make the situation even worse.

Always a great experience going here. The front desk girls are amazing, the techs are friendly and kind to the animals, & the vets are on a different level of compassionate and knowledgeable! Even when I had to take my Labrador in on a Sunday, Dr. Dariece Senderak made the experience calm and compassionate. She even kissed my dog's head as she was putting her down. I'll always recommend them.

My Lady Scarlett and We, were treated with the upmost respect. Lady Scarlett loved her sweet Dr. Hirsch. He was professional, gentle, patient and interacted very nicely with Scarlett. During testing with Lady Scarlett stood very still. She was very comfortable with Dr. Hirsch. We all were very pleased.

Every person who is at the Animal Hospital, whether a "vet", to the "clerks"..will "listen" to the "pet-parents" and "Pets+Parents" are treated with caring & compassion!! ~They "bend over backwards" to help in any situation..I would "NOT" take our precious one, anywhere else!!! - they're fantastic!! ~..Becki..
