The Totem Post is, quite simply, a Nashville, Indiana icon. It first opened in 1952 and was one of only five shops in town. It is still in the family of founding owners Bill and Marielle Jockey as their daughter now owns it. Open year-round, The Totem Post offers authentic Native American jewelry, crafts, moccasins, knives, ethnic gifts, silver, and copper jewelry. The Totem Post folks are without fail friendly and I'm pleased to report that the shop itself is surprisingly wheelchair friendly (not always true in Nashville). A lot of the items at The Totem Post have a sense of spirituality to them and the times I've visited it has felt like a bit of a respite to even enter the establishment. The store has a bit of a fun origin story. The Jockeys were dancers on the SS. Uruguay who visited family in Indianapolis. During the visit, they were taken to Nashville, Indiana. Not long after, the leathercraft establishment went up for sale - The Jockeys moved forward and bought the place and quickly began establishing themselves among Native American and South American communities so they could carry high quality yet affordable items. While Nashville has certainly grown larger than those five shops from 1952, The Totem Post remains a local favorite and a tourist destination. I seldom, if ever, visit Nashville without a stop here.

One of Nashville's oldest shops. It's been at the same location along Van Buren Street since 1952

Went in with my Husband and Daughters today to buy some Jewelry and crystals. Saw lovely pieces of Jewelry. Unfortunately the woman who decided my children looked like thieves and lept from her post behind the counter to keep stern watch on them made us extremely uncomfortable. We decided only to spend a few dollars instead of what we had planned. Hopefully they learn to be more respectful and welcoming to people who don't fit their ridiculous expectations or standards.

By far my favorite shop in Nashville. The staff is always inviting and helpful. They have a fantastic selection of vintage Native American jewelry. They did ask that we put on masks to enter which we chose to do.

Kick you out without a mask even if vaccinated. If you’re that scared stay home and just sell your business.

if you go into the Totem Pole without a mask, expect to be attacked, by deranged, crazy acting people that work there. They are dangerous nut jobs. I will never ever go back. The junk they sell is overpriced.
