Very Unprofessional. I called the east Chicago branch and left a voicemail inquiring about a home loan. Their person butt dialed my phone number at around 8pm. They never returned my phone call. Hmmm I wonder why!?? I went with another lender.

If you want problems with the IRS bank here. They refuse to correct their records and they notify the IRS that you have withdrawn money from accounts that have been closed for a year.

If I could give zero stars I would. This branch specifically will tell you one thing and deny it later. Extremely quick to charge you fees even if the problem was on their behalf and will actually argue with you when you try to explain to them why they were wrong instead of fixing the problem. Sadly this was not the first time but it will surely be the last. Horrible customer service.

Bad service from people who don't know their jobs. We were with Citizens for decades and never had problems like this. Imagine going into a bank to pay off your mortgage and THEY MAKE A MISTAKE DOING THAT, a mistake so bad it left a balance on our account which of course was accumulating daily interest for them. We're outta there! I'd give them zero stars if I could.

They are terrible business people. For five weeks their SVP of SBA Banking told us our deal was going to go through, and then he says it did not make it. He did not even have the courtesy to call me, but tell us through our broker. We have two other SBA loans and both of those banks were way more professional than Merchants bank of Indiana.

I had a First Merchants Bank debit card connected to PayPal and bought something for $300. I then closed my First Merchants accounts (because their service has plummeted while fees skyrocketed). Later, I returned what I purchased, so PayPal returned the money to my debit card--except the debit card was closed at that point. First Merchants was supposed to reject the returned funds and return them to PayPal, but instead these thieves kept my money! PayPal was kind enough to run a trace and they confirmed from their end that First Merchants kept my money. I asked First Merchants to also run a trace from their end, but they said they can't and that the money may have gone onto some else's debit card! As I write this, I'm waiting to hear back from my attorney about what options I may have. In any event, this confirms why I left this "bank."

This was a really pleasant bank to deal with, but they have resorted to the nickel and dime fees again. The customer service has gone down the tubes and it is just a miserable place to bank. I'm working on convincing my other half to pull out all of our funds and those of our children and we're gone. So sad, we've been with this bank when it was Citizens and it's depressing to know it's gotten this bad.
