I stay in a lot of hotels but this one by far is one of the better ones. They're clean and close to a lot of things

Staff are very prompt and helpful. There are two ladies who clean rooms who put forth an extra helpful hand for sure. There should be more just like those two.
Food & drinks: You can't get any better than the foods they serve and the dining room is very clean and orderly

I used to have a positive opinion of Staybridge Suites in Merrillville. I booked a suite about month in advance so me and some friends in different locations from southern Indiana to Wisconsin could meet. We picked a large suite like always in the past. Suite booked and paid for ahead of time. Then I get notified last minute hotel overbooked. Now, I have to scramble to find alternate location for my friends or possibly cancel our get together. I am pissed and angry! I don't trust the hotel anymore.

Unfinished repair in the bathroom, rusty bedstand lamp with loose and poor plug-ins (cell phone did not properly charge overnight), and front desk needed a photocopy of an i.d. I am a Diamond Elite IHG member and consider this one of the worst, if not the worst IHG location ever.

The staff does the best they can with what they have. The cleaning could be better, but when you are short staffed, it happens.

Rooms not ready on time. Given wrong room type and informed that they have none of the correct type available, despite booking weeks in advance and arriving for check-in at 3:01 PM.
One of the rooms has a persistent musty odor and the AC appears to not be working as the temperature is not budging from 78 degrees. Probably going to demand a refund and go somewhere better.

The stay has been great. Very well maintained. Taco night was fun and the husband appreciated the beer after driving all day.

We stayed at the Staybridge Suites in Merrillville for two nights while we were in town for a funeral. I post a review only because I looked at reviews before I booked and now that I've stayed there, I would like to add some info I wish I would've known. All in all, I don't know that we'd stay here again.
Pros:
-Location - they have many stores, restaurants, mall, theater, activities within just a mile or two.
-Full breakfast in the morning. While a few of the items didn't taste fresh (namely, the eggs), there was a lot to choose from which was great for kids.
Cons:
- Our room did not feel clean. There was a hair on my pillow (when we first walked in) and the couch in the living area was stained. There was also a lot of dings, dents, and deep scratches on furniture/appliances/doors which gives a feel that there's not a lot of upkeep. Considering the amount we paid, this room did not seem worth the money.
- No pool. The Google listing for Staybridge shows a picture of a pool. We brought swimsuits for the kids who were excited about swimming only to find out they closed the pool after Covid because they didn't want to fix/maintain it after it had been closed. My kids were so disappointed. I realize now that I should've done more research and probably called to verify beforehand, but have to admit that the Google listing misled us a bit. Others may feel the same.
Overall: I can't say that we'd stay here again. This is one of the more expensive hotels in the area (there are many in the area) and for the money we spent, we expected more in terms of quality and cleanliness.
Rooms: Did not feel clean, needed upkeep
Noteworthy details: No pool

Supposedly a somewhat dangerous area
Safety: I was told by locals that a sex trafficking ring operates nearby and I should not go to the nearby mall or take a walk outside the hotel

I reserved 2 rooms to stay after a wedding. We arrived at 8:30pm and the room smelled totally like very strong room deodorizer. My wife started getting a headache from the smell. After complaining we were told that they were sold out and the only thing they could do was to try a ionizer for 30 minutes to try to allieve the odor. It helped a little but still had some of the smell. In addition, the furnishings were old and worn out, in the room I got for my daughter, the sofa arms were split open. The lamp next to the sofa in my room was broken with the top tilting to one side which could be a safety issue. All of these items were addressed with the hotel front desk staff and all we got was a sorry about that. As a rewards member I expected a little more than that. Hotel needs a lot of work to bring it up to standard. Not worth what they charge.

This is a very nice hotel. The only problem I’ve had here was lack of privacy. The cleaning crew entered my room numerous of times after knocking. There should be a rule to wait until check out time to enter the rooms. I was changing during the last time which kind of made me uncomfortable. I still had an hour left before checkout when they did this. The first time, it wasn’t even check out day? Weird! Nonetheless, I would return but please make sure the cleaning crew stop entering rooms before check out.

Melinda at the front desk is literally terrible. Dont know ish cant help with ish. Too busy being on the cell phone talking to lord knows who knowing that the front door doesn't open after hours and people may be checking in late. She is never at the front desk and always in the back kitchen in the night time on the phone or doing something else. She is the only reason I'm three stars the front desk Eric, Maria were very pleasant but Melinda changes the entire vibe of the hotel and experience. She may need to move to housekeeping because customer service is NOT the position for her. If it wasnt for my poor interaction with her, definitely woulda been at-least a 4 star experience.
