We were clients of theirs for over 10 years. They are supposed to be experts in clergy tax, but that is not evident. One year they made a huge mistake, claiming that we had made a payment worth several hundred dollars when we hadn't. I discovered their mistake when I got an unexpected bill from the IRS. I called them about it and never received any kind of apology for their mistake.Two years ago, I felt like something was wrong with my husband's W-2, so I asked them for advice about it since they are supposedly experts in clergy tax. Julie Wood refused to help me with this issue and was very rude in doing so. This is when we left their firm.We just discovered, after switching to a new accountant, that because of them, we had overpaid on our taxes for all 10 years they prepared our returns. They did not adequately explain things, even when expressly asked for help with a certain line item.I do not recommend Witmer Wood for clergy or any tax payers at all.

The worst experience I have had with an accountant. Papers repeatedly not filed or filed incorrectly, and when I had to uncover the problems myself and brought it to their attention I was met with hostility and excuses. This did not happen one time it was repeated and never one time did they own their mistake without me having to press them on it. I loved that they claim to be a Christian organization, but their actions were far from that when mistakes happened on their part. I was yelled at over the phone by the owner, after being told repeated she was not available. Suddenly she came on the line very angry at me, when they had tried to pull money from an incorrect business account! I have heard the same thing from others, after I moved on to a fabulous accountant. Save yourself a lot of extra work and find someone else.

We have used Witmer Wood for the past 12 years in two different states and never had an issue with this firm. I am a Lutheran pastor and they understand the various exemptions and IRS rules for clergy, provide all of the documentation that I need for clergy taxes and they have saved us a bunch of money. When I've had a question they have responded promptly. Their price is fair compared to the other tax firm we used prior to Witmer Wood. We've referred other pastors to them and they've been very happy with this firm.

It's so sad that most of the people who write reviews are just angry because they didn't get what they wanted. We've been getting our taxes done with Witmer Wood since 2009, and I don't believe that there is a better tax preparation service in the country. Every return they file is accurate, and legal, and when they rarely make a mistake, they aren't afraid to admit it. If you don't get the return you wanted, it's because you aren't entitled to it. Witmer Wood is absolutely the best, and at half the cost of what you pay almost anywhere else.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people think they know more than the pros with years of training and experience, yet they cannot prepare their own tax return. If they know so much, why don't they prepare their own? Part of the problem is many people read information on the IRS website, or another source, then stop reading when they get the answer they think they want. The correct answer only comes after fully researching the subject. As a former, now retired, associate of Witmer Wood Tax I can say that WWTC does not charge in advance, and will not complete a return without complete and accurate information. A professional will only sign a tax return that he or she knows is complete and accurate.
