“Okay, so every time I have ever taken Amtrak from Lafayette to Chicago they are rarely on time. At least twice I have seen fellow passengers traveling to Chicago for a Cubs game completely miss the game due to the train being delayed. My last trip was a pleasant surprise. Only 10 minutes off schedule going to Chicago and ON TIME!! the next day going back to Lafayette. That being said, there is just something about train travel that seems like an adventure. I have traveled Amtrak on this route many times over the years but this time I took my 4 and 8 year old grandchildren and they loved. it. The cars are clean and roomy and the bathrooms about as clean as you can expect on public transportation. Sometimes there is a dining car and sometimes there isn't. While there is limited to no parking at the Amtrak station without a permit, just two blocks away is the Tippecanoe County parking garage. As of right now if you arrive back to pick up your vehicle at the garage after regular business hours (and you will) there is no charge for parking. It's a fun way to travel to Chicago and you can't beat the price. But if you have a place that you have to be at a specific time at your destination, I wouldn't count on it. But if you are going just to hang out or do a little shopping, it's great. And for the person who mentioned that they are ending service from Indy to Chicago....the contract was actually approved...at least for the next two years we will continue to have service!”
