It was an excellent experience teaching the English language with the teacher, Corinna, but unfortunately I could not complete the course due to health conditions, but I will try to complete the course this semester. Thank you very much. Center Nine

I had completed my firefighter I/II course here in the ‘23 winter class and was planning to attend their spring EMT course this year. Had filled out the notify me when registration opens up. Never received any email then went on their site around Dec 20 and said class was full even though had never received any emails. I then emailed asking why no notification was sent as was still interested. Now it’s February and still waiting on an email back. This place is an absolute joke to deal with. Also, have had friends do other firefighter I/II courses offered at other local FD’s and the amount of hands on training they receive vs what is received at C9 is mind blowing and really makes it seem like you get shorted by going here.

Ok, so I only took the adult EMT class at Central Nine Career center. So this review is solely based on this program alone.I took this class about a year ago and was in it all the way until the end of the semester. I’m going to withhold his name out of respect for privacy, but the individual in charge of this program was simultaneously a paramedic at White River Township Fire Department. I was doing well in the class, and I had an A all the way up until the end of the class. They made us take a pass/fail final test for the class (which is already not making sense for people who have A’s in the class like myself). This test was made by this individual I mentioned that is in charge of the program. The final test was ridiculously hard. I would say that over half of the material was over anatomical and physiologically questions that I have not even covered in my current Anatomy and Physiology classes in college. Needless to say, I did not meet their self-designated score to pass. Our instructor for the class (actually not the individual in charge of the program) LEFT THE CLASS and I witnessed multiple people cheating on their phones to find answers. And it’s funny to me that these people passed this exam…We were given an opportunity to retake the test. And I actually asked one of the instructors to go over the answers, as multiple questions also had multiple answers that could correctly answer the question. The instructor forgot to take down the correct answers for us to view on the page outside of the classroom. So i studied them. The next class, those same questions were on the retake, and I passed. The next class the head instructor was on a call to address me separately and called me “academically dishonest” for studying those questions that THEY FORGOT TO TAKE DOWN. So according to this paramedic that works at White River Township Fire Department, being academically dishonest is when you use what was mistakenly left up by one of your instructors, and being academically dishonest is NOT cheating on your phone for answers on your test while the instructor leaves the classroom during a pass/fail test for the course. So I took ANOTHER hard retake and failed. And they kicked me out of the class. And i am almost certain i would have passed the tests for the certification outside of the classroom.Oh yeah, I had to attend multiple (unpaid) 12-hour clinicals at Fire Departments where they LAUGHED at me for not being shown how to even use a glucometer. Rightfully so, they questioned what we were actually being “taught”I am not joking or over-exaggerating when I say that probably over 75% of the students were kicked out of this class from the beginning to the end. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PROGRAM. IT IS SET UP TO KICK THE MAJORITY OF THE CLASS OUT.

***I can only speak on the adult education EMT-B evening class as that is the only class I have attended here*** 5/13/2022 I signed up for this class because I wanted to become a firefighter, had gotten an associates degree in fire science but my EMT class in college was cancelled due to Covid. My first EMT class at Vincennes university was a great experience although it was cut short. I came into this class with an open mind, eager to learn and accomplish my goals. This class was the most unorganized and unprofessional sad excuse for education on any level I have ever been a part of. For instance we were given a syllabus at the beginning of class, it must've been from years ago as the dates were completely wrong. There are online certification courses through IDHS on acadis that we were required to do, the list of those courses they gave us at the beginning of class was completely wrong. We had one or two chapters to read and complete corresponding busy work for each night of class and they'd change which chapter was due then proceed to blame us although every single student read the "wrong" chapters. We had a spring break, we were told about it the night before we would have had class. There are clinical ride alongs you have to complete with a minimum number of patient contacts you have to have, they must've forgotten about it because they gave us a few weeks to do it while the high school class had been doing them weeks before we found out. If class was cancelled for the night we were told a couple hours before class. Some of those things are excusable, just unprofessional and lazy, but a lot of things that happened weren't excusable. The passing grade for the final exam of an EMT class is a 75%. We were originally allowed 2 attempts. I along with everyone but three students didn't pass the test. Came back to the next class, I didn't pass that test either. They decided to give us a third attempt because over half of the class was going to be let go which I'm sure would've reflected poorly on them. I passed the third test! I was excited because I studied for hours on end and was proud. I had worked so hard and learned so much. I told my family, my work associates and many others of this accomplishment. That was the second to last class we had before the state practical exam. When I arrived to the last class, they said we were going to have to retest again, for a fourth time because they reused half of the questions on the third retake from the second retake. They had told us they would reuse them and we studied the second retest. They never told us not to review that test and actually went through the answers with us after the second retest. I failed the last "pop" final exam. It would have helped to know we were retesting before we got to class. Another note, I was one of three students that I didn't see with my own eyes cheat or admit to it on the tests they passed. I won't name names because unlike my instructors, I enjoy seeing people succeed. So I had passed the final exam, but made us retest without telling us because of THEY'RE mistake. It's not the student's fault the unorganized, lazy instructors forgot to restrict access to study material they didn't want us to look at. One of the teachers (the one that actually taught the classes) resigned from teaching that night because she was so distraught about us having a pop final exam and had gotten into a "screaming" fight with the other instructor before us students arrived for our last class. In conclusion I wouldn't recommend taking the adult EMT class at C-9. I received a grant so I didn't pay for anything but it still wasn't worth even driving down there. Especially now because the only teacher that at least gave of the impression of caring quit in the middle of our last class. I hope something will change but I doubt it will. What an absolute joke. My kid went here for his junior and senior year in high school did the HVAC program. This school is a great idea for people, would highly recommend it. When he was 2 weeks out of high school, he already got a job doing HVAC. It gives you hands on experience and it teaches you why things work the way they do. He is doing some but further education but, this program will set you up without it.I couldn't thank C9 enough for all they done.

I feel that any high school student who is considering a career in any subject C9 has to offer should take the opportunity and run with it.

Im currently an almost 30 year old student at centeral nine . I have nothing but nice things to say about this place and their staff . I went into this unsure i could ever do this , between my kids and work and now school . My teach not only devotes time to me in the classroom but outside of it as well . Anytime day or night i don’t understand something , my teacher will go into great length or detail to my issues (if possible) . I could also simple ask if we could work on this specific subject next class time and we do . I highly suggest the FREE study sessions that are provided lots of good note taking and pages to work on to keep you busy in and outside of the study session . I have gained confidence just from class alone and the encouragement from my teacher Mrs. Sally (my cheese ball) . I have worked with several teachers and i would suggest all of them . If you are wondering if this is good school , will they work with you , is there day or night classes , will you get the help you need ? All the answers to that are YES ! I WILL graduate this year with my HSE with my teacher by my side . To be an adult seeking my High school education it isn’t an easy road , but you don’t get anywhere always taking the easy road.
