The stores air conditioning has been out all summer, but instead of repairing it, they just close the store down. This is my local store, so of course it’s an inconvenience . However, there’s more at stake here than our small town’s ability to shop close to home….
First: the employees are NOT getting paid. I understand this is a part time job for most of them and they don’t receive benefits, but they aren’t working there for their health- they depend on those paychecks! Dollar General is responsible for providing them with a safe working environment. I can’t tell you how many days they worked in 85-90 degree temps, drenched in sweat. I’ve heard that they were offered shifts at other stores in the area…what a joke. Ask any manager how thin they have to stretch their allotted payroll hours and you will quickly discover they are barely given enough to cover their own employees- let alone another stores’! Bottom line- they should be given some compensation for the clear negligence exhibited by the upper level management team.
Secondly, this store happens to be one of the highest volume stores in the region and possibly ranked as one the lowest in shrinkage. So Dollar General would rather lose thousands of dollars a day for months rather than just fix the problem? Here’s the kicker: a local HVAC guy said he could fix the problem in less than two days, but DG won’t let him. Why? Because they have to order this part from a specific company and apparently there’s an extremely long lead time. The HVAC dude said he could get the part in a single day from his distributor…..make this make sense?!? Either Dollar General is run by absolute idiots, they hate their employees and customers, or something nefarious is afoot. Ultimately, it’s not even worth shopping at DG anymore. This massive failure in addition to their ridiculous surprise mystery pricing makes me want to drive the 20 min to Meijer…?

Employees refused to allow pleading people inside during a tornado. All the employees were at the front locked door, watching the storm, as manager Amy Tucker, told screaming, terrified people, in fear for their lives, that CORPORATE won’t allow them to let them in. I called after the storm passed and Amy hung up on me. If this is corporate policy that your employees can turn away strangers begging for help, this needs to be changed. If this is not policy, every employee there needs to be fired.

Worst freaking experience ever, nothing ever rings up there change in the self checkout, the manager said there was no way to get there change back out, what do they do leave the change in there forever, what a freaking joke. Why don't they get a manager like the last one or at least one that knows what the hell they are doing. I will never spend another dime in that store...

At Dollar General, I always experience price discrepancies (between what is on the tag, and what is rung up on the register), particularly at this store. If it is a significant amount, I mention it. Sometimes, they adjust the price, and sometimes, I decide to put the merchandise back. Today was the worst experience I have had at DG, or any retail store. The cashier was the rudest, most hostile woman I have encountered. She cussed me out, told me I was going to listen to her while she lectured me on how it wasn’t her fault, called me honey, (so offensive, since I’m old enough to be her mother), said I was getting on her nerves, and called the police on me. The police thing might have been funny if it had not been a huge waste of his time, but I really think part of her problem is that she is tired of explaining the price discrepancies. I was very polite to her, however, and did not deserve her contempt. Very nasty.

Whole isles blocked, new staff not friendly or helpful, store is a mess. Random items in wrong spots and the floor is full of junk, there has been a basket in 1 isle for 2 months. I go elsewhere to shop now, especially since new staff is so rude.

I go to this dollar general all the time. When it first opened it was kept up very nice. Now it looks like a pile of junk!! ? a lot of the product is EMPTY ALL THE TIME. I literally have a picture of a WHOLE aisle blocked off with freight carts all the way down it. VERY FRUSTRATING. They need a new district manager. Or Something! I just know they need help!! Would give zero stars if I could.
