We recently adopted our second dog from CCHS and both experiences were just the best. Their "Foster to Adopt" process takes all the fear and reluctance out of what should always be a major decision. Cheyenne and the entire staff are very responsive to whatever questions/ concerns u may have. Just a great environment to add to your family and give an animal a second chance.

They were wonderful in helping to adopt a little girl dog we now call Shelby. They sent pictures and videos before I made the 2 hour drive to check her out. They offered a 30 day foster to adopt which was nice, but I already knew the minute I met Shelby that she was the one we needed. Niko Was also happy that he got a play mate. Sending much appreciation to the shelter for being wonderful to work with and giving us our wonderful Shelby. ???

Let me start by saying I hate to say anything bad about anybody who helps animals. With that said I went to this shelter around November I believe. We were looking to adopt a senior dog. We've always had rescues so we have been exposed to many different policies when it comes to adopting from places. Went a little something like this, we showed up stated what we were interested in and our situation. We were told we couldn't look at the dogs because it would get them all excited. We thought that was strange. How do we know what we want if we can't look at them? They said you look online and fill out paperwork before the introduction,Say what? Long story short we obviously went somewhere that we could interact with the dogs before choosing. We ended up adopting a dog that day from Almost Home in Tippecanoe county. I wouldn't have even left this review had my wife not got a message today asking if we were still looking. Hello, it's been over 6mos! No we aren't looking anymore. I really hope this isn't the standard at this shelter. It just really rubbed us the wrong way. To top it off we had adopted at this shelter 2 years ago. Just a poorly ran shelter. I hope things have changed........Reply to the reply: This was the first time we were contacted by your shelter? We were never looking for a puppy if that's what you mean by pup? We were looking for a senior dog. The point I was trying to make that wasn't addressed was the way we were never allowed to look at the dogs while we were there. That policy just doesn't seem like a policy that will get dogs adopted? Again though, this was the first contact we received from this shelter since we visited in November or so. So maybe you can understand how this would seem strange, maybe not? Thanks for doing the work you do, I'm just letting you possibly know a way to get more adopted.

Super friendly staff. They are patient and love animals. My kids were able to spend time with and find the cats they connected the best with.

I have never met anyone more dedicated , loving and caring doing the kind of work they do. sounds crazy right you would think that those are the absolutes of being a shelter staff member. I am here to say i have contacted and communicated with several shelters in the surrounding areas in hopes of finding our sweet baby. Out of all the people i have communicated with i knew right away that the HSOCC was the place. They are ABSOLUTELY incredible. They are all of the things they are expected to be, even the volunteers are good and true amazing people. This place deserves all of the communities support. Now about my baby MAX words dont do justice as to how i feel about this whole experience and my sweet new baby. I wish i could adopt them all. We are crazy dog parents and have all the love to give. If you are considering adoption this is the shelter you want to adopt from. I can say the animals are well loved and cared for. The director truly goes above and beyond as well as the rest of the staff. Thank you to HSOCC for everything you have for our sweet boy and all the support you have shown us during this time.
