This pet shelter genuinely cares for the pets under their care. They were up front about all the questions I asked about the dog we ended up welcoming into our home. Our dog received all vaccinations & medical interventions needed in the time he was there. Totally satisfied with this pet shelter/humane society!!

A beautiful, well-kept, large building out in the country. Volunteer dog walkers had dogs on leashes walking the grounds when I pulled up. The staff was friendly. The place did smell a little funny but I imagine with all those animals it’s hard not to! They are booked to capacity and still doing a great job - tell your friends and family to adopt and foster!

We have chosen to do a benefit ride with Bartholomew County Humane Society which is taking place August 17th of 2024. Most rides that we have ever done the people that we are doing the benefit ride for have never really participated they want us to do most of the work. That being said Bartholomew County Humane Society has done an amazing job trying to set up anything they can to help us out helping them. I was there this past Saturday one week prior to the ride and I walked in and they were friendly they were courteous they were more than welcome to try to help me out with any of the information that I need as being that I do security work. Not to mention there are no kill shelter!!! August 17th of 2024 please help us help Bartholomew County Humane Society doors open at 10:00 am!!!!

Extremely lacking in transparency and in my opinion, they lack sufficient cleaning protocols and enrichment for the cats. They have blocked people who leave any type of criticism or negative reviews on their social media and have dismissed regular volunteers who asked questions related to the welfare of their cats there. In my experience volunteering there, I found they keep most of their cats in back rooms (rooms right next to the loud, constantly barking dogs, which is very stressful for the cats) for on average 6-8 weeks, sometimes longer, and I could determine no good reason for this, nor did it seem like they had a consistent policy when I started asking why. During that time, the cats are not even posted to the website or Facebook, and they are not being seen by the public since they are in the back, so no one even knows they are there, and they have no chance of being adopted. These are healthy, socialized cats, often who have already been fixed, and many are owner surrenders with no mandatory stray hold. When I very gently brought up concerns to the board, I was initially ignored by the board president for a month. The board secretary completely brushed off my concerns, stating she trusts the staff completely and advising me not to mention any of this to staff because they might become defensive and it might lead to conflict. Well, I mentioned it anyway because it bothered me so much and someone had to speak up for the animals, and every other shelter I've helped at never operated this way. I mentioned it in the kindest way possible, offering to help with anything I could for free if it was a capacity issue, but they did not take me up on it and soon after, responded rudely, telling me I never should have gone to the board. If they have nothing to hide, why are volunteers not allowed to speak to board members? They currently have a cat who has been there since December who is still not on their website. The reason given to me is because he has intermittent diarrhea, but another staff member told me their vet said she believes the cause could be shelter stress.
I feel it is unethical to hold cats there for so long without even advertising them as available. Their adoption times would go much faster if they posted their animals sooner. They made me drive 40 minutes there for my weekly shift, only to "terminate" me as a volunteer instead of giving me the courtesy of a phone call or email, during which time, the director and her customer service guy sat me down and told me I had "too many questions" and concerns over the previous week. The director even stated to me: "We THOUGHT we had someone here helping the cats, but we didn't." I would have done anything for those cats, which is exactly why I brought up my concerns.

I went in to look for a dog, I live by myself with two other house pet dogs they are two older dogs, and I would like a young one to go with them, some gray haired guy told me they were pretty busy today and that I should come back and make an appointment to adopt a dog, wow never been turned down from a business because they said they were too busy I feel sorry for the dogs and cats in there with people like that that don't want to adopt out animals without an appointment

They think it’s cruel to drop off ANIMALS anytime but it’s not considered cruel to drop a baby off at a fire department lock box? Lol he could’ve killed them dogs and nobody would’ve known.. but he turned em into you.. and you call the news ?
