The Monon Community Center is truly a gem in the heart of Carmel, offering something for everyone in the community. Whether you’re looking to get in a great workout, enjoy family-friendly activities, or simply relax, this facility has it all. The state-of-the-art fitness center is well-equipped with modern machines and a variety of classes, making it easy to find a workout that fits your goals. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help, which makes the experience even more enjoyable.
The highlight for many is the incredible indoor and outdoor pools. The aquatic center is perfect for families, with splash pads and slides that keep the kids entertained for hours. For adults, the lap pools and lazy river provide both fun and fitness options. The outdoor water park in the summer is a fantastic way to cool off and have a blast.
The Monon Community Center also shines in terms of its recreational offerings, including basketball courts, an indoor track, and multipurpose rooms for a wide range of activities. Whether you’re into fitness, sports, or community events, there is always something going on here.
Overall, the Monon Community Center provides a perfect blend of fitness, fun, and community spirit. It’s well-maintained, spacious, and offers a welcoming environment for people of all ages. It’s a great place to stay active, meet new people, and enjoy everything Carmel has to offer. Highly recommend!

Website says it's built with taxpayers money but operates separately... Meaning we paid for it to be built and now to use it we gotta pay to keep it operating and to use it

I used my active&fit direct program and once I found out that this gym was available with the program, I mainly used this gym. Mostly because of the amenities included, pool, free weights, and after I could skate towards downtown Carmel. A really great place to go!

As Carmel residents we love the Monon Community Center and especially love the use of The Waterpark. Had our first visit of summer 2024 & didn’t love some things. Upon arrival at 11:15am, 99% of all lawn chairs/furniture had towels or were being saved in some fashion. So here I was with three kids and no where to sit. But countless people had items on chairs NOT utilizing them. It’s going to cause a problem when someone decides to throw someone’s things off a chair and just take it. Guest perspective if you will.
Concessions were kinda gross. Staff was kinda dry and some of them really need to work on their interpersonal skills. Like saying hello…or even, what can we get for you? Anything.
You might consider additional security to back entry parking lots and perhaps an officer that walks the perimeter. I didn’t enjoy seeing multiple vehicles and groups of people hiding to smoke weed. They need to do that at home cause it’s not for my kids eyes or noses.
Lifeguards, water safety and pool quality is always superb.

Horrible communication on water park hours. Already questionable policy to close bc the weather MIGHT be bad hours later but regardless it would take less than 5 minutes to update the status of the water park literally anywhere online (not on website, Facebook, etc).

A comprehensive review of the MCC facilities (Updated March 2024, 5 months of membership):
Overall, I am satisfied with the membership, but there is a ton of room for improvement with the MCC. I have experimented by going at different times of the day on each day of the week to find the optimal times for equipment availability. If you have the flexibility to go at unusual times (very early AM or just before close), working out at the MCC is very enjoyable. On the other hand, peak times (late mornings and weekdays 4-7pm) can be unbearable. Specifically Mondays are a madhouse because of the bro split.
Specifically in reference to the weights area of the gym, availability is a huge issue. If you are following a program and want to use specific equipment during those peak times, you may find yourself waiting anywhere from 2-10 minutes for a machine to free up. I regularly see people just sit on the nearest machine and occupy, but not utilize it, so they can jump on a machine when it opens.
The other big problem I have here is the frequency of kids in the gym. Particularly between 3-5pm, there is a large amount of kids. I understand it’s a community center available to all residents, that is not the issue. The kids come in large groups (3-5) and are collectively entitled. The biggest issue with this entitlement is the standing around. These groups will crowd a certain machine (often the limited cable machines or the squat racks). Then, they proceed to do a set maybe every 2 minutes, simply chatting while standing around the machine and not actually using it. You will often find these groups wearing pajama pants for some reason.
While sharing the facilities with kids aged 13-18 is not a concern for me, I feel that people in this age range (i.e. not adults) should be required to take a safety and etiquette session before being granted membership.
To be complete, the majority of MCC members are very courteous and will ask if you’re finished with a machine, how many sets you have left, etc. Better yet, most will simply not get in your way at all. I have yet to feel uncomfortable working out here like I have at other gyms in the past.
Suggestions to address issues: There is lots of square footage at the MCC which could be used for additional free weights. There is an urgent need for greater quantity of commonly used dumbbells (10-50 lb) and barbell weights (5-35 lb). As a suggestion to the MCC, the upstairs classrooms are almost always empty when the weight room is at peak demand in the evenings. Those rooms should be configured as dual-purpose rooms such that they are open-use free weights rooms when there is no class in session. There is clearly greater demand for additional weights than class sessions. By reading previous reviews, it is apparent that weight availability is an issue which has gone unaddressed for quite a long time.
Lastly, much of the standard issue equipment is aging and worn with maintenance lacking. Many of the fixed weight machines have broken set pins, two of three reclining benches have loose pins and wobble when positioned upright, many often used dumbbells lack knurling and are borderline smooth, which is arguably a safety concern.
This may seem a quite critical review, and it is, but I am happy overall. For the price it is (currently $49/month), it is a much better deal than a less busy (and/or larger) gym facility such as PF.
The indoor track is nice for non-stationary running in the cold. I have yet to see it so busy that it’s unusable. I enjoy having this available.
I cannot comment to the pools, courts, or classes, as I have not utilized them. I would love to play pickleball there in the winter, but the open pickleball times are obscure and when I have checked them out, there were ~30 people waiting to rotate in on only 3 courts.
Cleanliness: 5-star
When busy: 3-star
When not

I like this gym a lot, but there is a lot of bad gym etiquette. Plated weights are always scattered to different machines and always have to go looking around just to be able to work out. I’d really like to see employees taking the time once or twice a day to distribute plates to machines to compensate for people’s poor gym etiquette. And also put up signs or something to help people remember to put weights back when finished.

I’ve been coming here for a year. My child loves the kid place. People in the kid place are great. However I had got a new card so my membership didn’t go through. I had to wait on my new card to come in so I came in and some nice guy named Chris gave me a receipt said I was good to come in all week and use the $30 towards my membership. I came in the next day and tried to bring my baby in she is only 3 super excited for the kid zone as always. This older guy named Mike said the information wasn’t accurate. I tried giving him my receipt. He said no leaving my toddler crying and dissapointed. I nicely asked for his full name and Preston jumped in and said we aren’t doing all of that. I said I can’t have his full name. He said no. But I can buy a membership. I don’t if he was racist but the way he handled me was extremely uncalled for and super disrespectful.

Not enough weights to be called a real gym. A lot of wasted space, tons of rooms with empty classes and a seating area but only one machine per muscle group, 2 bench presses, and only one cable machine/rack so you spend a lot of your workout waiting or fighting for a spot.

The activity pool is great when all aspects are open but lately the slides have been closed due to lack of guards. This is the part the kids really want to use so it is very upsetting to get there and find the slides closed. Seems to happen a lot lately.

This is a super clean facility. I always go to hoop. So, 3 full basketball courts is LOVE. Fitness center is solid w/ more than enough to build whatever area of yourself. Pools. A LONG walk/run/bike path. I have checked the locker rooms if there is a sauna or steam room yet, but that would make this one of the best gyms I’ve been to, in my opinion‼️???

Pros: The Water Park being included in your membership is wonderful. Sauna in the locker room is great. Kids Zone staff are lovely.Cons: Fitness Center needs a deep clean, machines are very dirty. Need to invest in new stretching mats, they are falling apart and gross. Fitness staff are not knowledgeable when it comes to hot to report issues. Several free weight machines and cable lay are not smooth and when mentioned to the staff they just looked up from their phone and said okay.

My two Elementary school aged daughters and I went on an extremely busy Saturday. It took 2 1/2 hours standing in line just to get into the facility. While in line there was out of control line jumping by teenaged kids and when voiced by at least 3 people, nothing was done about it and people were taunted by teenagers for saying anything to on duty law "enforcement". The facility was ok.
