The beach itself is nice but sooo expensive. For people without parking passes it's $20 and on top of that non residents pay $15 and residents pay $9. In my opinion a rip off and overpriced.

A park and a beach is along the lake. Gillson Park is the best thing about Wilmette, and beats any of those overcrowded ones farther south. If you want to actually be able to walk on a beach and not feel crowded, then head up a ways. Be careful about where you park because you can find places for free. There's also plenty of green space for athletic fields. Gillson is a big park, and that makes it feel not as crowded. It has several different parts. There's the actual park with the grass and trees. It's often very quiet here. Where's all the people? At the beach. This beach is still less crowded than any of the Chicago beaches full of both locals and tourists. It has a nice little play area. The sand is pretty clear of debris for the most part. Also at this park is a big a** marina. There's lots of boats, and there's also a club you can join if you can pay up. However you spend time here, just be careful about parking or it may be costly. It has pay lots close to the beach but you can find free parking on the residential streets. They have certain places where you can't park though, so pay attention to signs and whatever.

Another hidden gem just north of Northwestern University. Such beautiful sand and water. Perfect for a morning stroll. The pictures speak for themselves as you can see quite far with the blue skies.

We booked the Lakeview Room for a birthday party. The space was perfect for a winter bday celebration. We loved all the natural wood on the interior and the warm fire place. The small kitchen with ovens was amazingly helpful. The parks district did a fabulous job of plowing and shoveling all the snow. The front desk attendant, Matt, went above and beyond to help. Everything was perfect!

Watch out. You park sans sticker at any time you will receive a bitchy orange $50 citation.. This is what you get for taking your child to a lower class public park. Wilmette = the only garbage suburb on the north shore. Gilson Park why the totally unfriendly policy about neighbors visiting? So glad I don't live there anymore and never ever will again. I never tell anyone I'm from here for good reason. Wilmette two thumbs way down. Just driving through is misery. I'm never patronizing shops, classes, or restaurants in the chicken s*** community ever again. There's a good reason why I left at my first possible chance. All happy reminiscing goes out the window with your stingy attitude.

Super pretty but the "rules" are very confusing. We are new residents with a dog. We just want to walk on the beach with our leashed dog. We don't want to use the dog beach. It seems like, during "season" if you or your dog put one toe in the water, you will get in trouble. I don't know why? This is just what I have heard, haven't tried it. Off-season, we have walked on the beach with the dog and she went in the water without a problem. From what I hear, on the non-swim beach, you can't touch the water. Why? Why can't you walk in the water? Why not just put up a sign saying, "Wading only" or something? So weird. Seems money motivated. I am a resident, I did pay for the swim beach but I want to hang with my dog and maybe put my feet in the water with her, not swim. The village should be more clear. I hate to hear that parents with kids are being treated like that.

First time here and it was the worst experience as a colored person. We felt attacked since the staff kept targeting us the moment we arrived. We paid for the parking lot and entrance, but we were more comfortable on the right side (free) since it was less crowded. The staff immediately came up to us (were Asians) telling us we can't be in the water. We weren't even swimming, we just had our feet in the water since we had kids with us. They did the same to a Hispanic group. But they never bothered to go up to the white people that were actually swimming in the no swimming zone. They happily let the non-POC do their thing and enjoy the water while they kept watch of our activities. Talk about discrimination. We honestly did not feel safe. They kept their eyes on us. We knew because we watched them as they watched us. If you're colored, I 100% do not recommend going to this beach. It was disgusting.

This is a big lakefront park with a beach that isn't too crowded. It's kind of hidden from the main road (Sheridan) which helps keep it from getting too crazy. There is a nice pirate-themed playgroimd for the kids too.
