Not sure if Steve Nelson is absent minded or a complete crook. I brought some gold to sell him at Sierra Gems, and after repeated inquires he has never paid me. In addition he lost all the stones he was to harvest, my mothers' wedding diamond and an entire diamond tennis bracelet among the many stones that were lost. Also, when I visited the shop at one point some of my jewelry was in his case to sell to the public! He does beautiful work, but I would never trust him again.

Having worked on Jeweler's Row (Wabash & Madison) back in the 90's I find Sierra Gem conveniently located, not in the desert but in DuPage County where I can zip in and zip out with little fuss or fanfare. I used to have a lot of connections, now I have a G.G. (Graduate Gemologist) in Steve. Best is you generally deal with the owner directly. 4 stars because his operating hours can be a little difficult to predict, so phone first. I usually direct people here for appraisals and custom jewelry design. I'll take Steve over mass produced "K" any day (God made each of us 1-of-a-kind, so why go to Jared for a Pandora?).
