I went in to buy a pump that I knew was 50 dollars more than buying on Amazon. I wanted to support a local smaller buisness. Instead I was told I was (special) by a frustrated employee.

Well, it's Ace Hardware... It's not like the Ace Hardware of years gone by. Like most retail establishments, the employees don't seem as knowledgeable as they did years ago. But, they do have a good enough selection to get you through any kind of household emergency that you might run into. It's a little pricier than, say a Menards or Home Depot; but, it is convenient. So, you might pay a little more; but, it costs you less in gas than to drive to Menards or Home Depot, so in the long run, it's not really any more expensive.
I was going to give them 5 stars; but, their employees are about as knowledgeable as the people working at Menards or Home Depot. That is, they know where to find something in the store; but, most of them don't know what half the stuff they sell is for, or how it's used. Just my observation.

This place is very unique. Sometimes, the associates are friendly and helpful, and other times don't bother to ask for assistance. Next time I am visiting the area I will contact the owner.

Went to return brand new can of ACE paint and was told they needed a manager to do this , when he came over he said because you bought it at another Ace you have to return it there for a five dollar item! This is why I go to Home depot , Menards Walmart, where as long as they sold it, they return it without treating you like you stole it, terrible 1970's service at Wauconda Ace!!!

Nice large Ace store with good customer attention and excellent selection. Extremely responsive to problem solving. I had an issue with an exchange and the owner personally reached out to me to correct my issue. You wouldn't find that type of attention at a big box store.
