If you love books, this bookstore is awesome!! I could have wandered around in here for days. Any genre you can think of, old authors, new authors, classics, fiction, non-fiction, etc. Virden is a little hard to get to, but it's worth the trip. No restaurants to speak of but there's a nice little park across from Books on the Square so pack lunch. And don't forget to check out The Sly Fox bookstore as well which has the latest books and a knowledgeable bookseller as well.

We stopped in the Springfield store this morning, and love the atmosphere of the store! New books, old ones, great prices, easy to find/access. Love the book selection (I bought a couple of books) and the service!

Books on the Square is amazing. I just happen to have stumbled upon it via a net search. I was looking for an unusual Illinois historical book which had its ISBN switched with an off topic paperback. Five book and two puzzle returns later, I called the Virden store. The owner was very familiar with the book straight away. She verified that it was in stock (in her hand) and shipped it to me straight away...it arrived this morning. Super book, super condition, super customer service. I will most definitely buy direct from this store again

This is a fun find in small-town Central/Southern Illinois. I enjoyed looking at their large selection of WWI and WWII history books. A nice, friendly atmosphere is present in the Virden store. The owners know the history of their buildings and the surrounding ones as well. It's worth a day trip from the St. Louis area. I'm looking forward to going back.
