I’ve been shopping at and having my pets care for at the South Elgin location since I can remember (1998?). It took me weeks to get my small dog an appointment because they’re to busy. I tried to have a fur trim, safety and sanitation only for my dog and I was told no by the smug multicolored hair female at the counter; it has to be a bath and everything else. I went to pic of my pup today and some better than customer saw me walking in so she parked her car right at the dog door and ran in to have her large dogs clipped and filed immediately; the multicolored haired female said sure, of course. So the princess went to her car to get her dog and the clerk handed me my bill to go pay for my services. Mind you, I not only have to pay my bill but also give a tip before I can even see my dog. I pay and go back to get my dog and the multicolored hair clerk told me to wait to get my dog as she started in on the princess’s dog. She then hands the bill and her dog to the princess. The princess kept her car running along the sidewalk the entire time. By this time, I’m VERY upset waiting as it took me weeks to get in and now I’m going to be late for work because of all this. As the princess took her bill and dog out I said to the princess it must be nice to be royalty sarcastically as she exited the door. The multicolored hair clerk informed me she was there before I was and that the princess is legally allowed to park along the front of the sidewalk door and I lost it! WTH!!!? I’m so done with that place. They say they guarantee their services but they don’t. Last time I was there I got my dog back bleeding because they ripped a skin tag off him while grooming him. The time before that he apparently had a huge tick on him and they cut his fur around air and didn’t tell me. The time before that they shaved him so close they chunked his skin and caused an infection and he was at the vet on antibiotics 2 days later! They don’t brush the teeth as paid for as my vet pointed out nor cleaned my dogs ears as paid for! If you love your fur babies, take them somewhere else. They have lost a loyal customer since 1998(?) because of the poor pet care and that smug sarcastic snotty clerk at the dog care desk.

Went to get my cat vaccinated,asked if this was Sylvester, my cat, weighted him told me where to go in store,done with vaccinations in about five minutes! Great service! Congrats to South Elgin Petco!!!????

Emily is so rude and unprofessional. I scheduled a grooming appointment for 8:30 AM, I got their at 8:20AM. Emily opened the door and said “ Can’t you see your groomer is not here, she’s not on the clock, go back and wait in your car.” I went back to my car. Now it’s 8:40AM, I knocked on the door, Emily said “ Can’t you see she’s not here, just got of the phone with your groomer, she got a flat tired, can’t you see her car is not here, wait 20 minutes ugh” dismiss me with a hand motion and closed the door, So rude and unprofessional. I understand stuff happens. Here’s the thing do not put a 8:30AM slot if none of your groomers actually arrive on time, most of the groomers came in after 9AM. Second their is a nicer way to say things. The groomer was really nice, did a good job, but Emily on the other hand… uff. For sure will not come back here. Save your time and go somewhere else.

I had a great experience! I got two more fish for my tank along with fresh plants. I always love seeing all the animals and the employees are always very kind and helpful! I didn't get their names, but there were three very sweet ladies working Friday afternoon and they were extremely helpful even while they were very busy. This is definitely one of the good locations!!!

This place has a good selection of pet products and food staff is very knowledgeable. And very helpful.
It's located in a strip mall at the end so accessibility is very good.
They do tend to be more expensive than big box stores have the same food but they have more choices to choose from

Not their best location. Went on a weekday (Tuesday around lunchtime) with my little boy who was off of school that day to buy a pet betta fish for us. The chubby white girl that "helped" us kept screaming that anything we buy was going to die. Like a ported aquarium plant, unpotted aquarium plant, and items being sold as foreground aquarium plants would grow to more than 10x the size and no longer fit in the aquarium because 'she has that exact same plant' then closed with, "I'll sell you whatever you want, but..." The store was overall more disheveled than other locations I've been to in the past.
