I’ve never had a cat before and I adopted both of my cats at their Bloomingdale Petco location and everyone was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. You can tell they really love the animals. They also provided me with a lot of resources to help my cat settle in. Love my cats and would definitely adopt from here again??

Anderson Animal Shelter employees work hard for the same goal most of us have. Rescuing animals and rehoming them! Thank you for all you do!

Don't go here. If you do make sure the animal is in good health as ours was not. She had worms and some type of infections on her body. We tried to get his resolved I was told "there was nothing
they could do and they get this call a lot". I hope the animals will be treated better in the future.

Me and my sister adopted Bruce and i gotta say Anderson is completely one of the best places to go for the worst service. They did a great job when it came to that. I’m leaving this great review for anyone that’s looking to adopt id highly suggest don’t go there. I feel bad for the animals that end up there.

I fostered a 2 year old dog from Anderson for a two week period in August before adopting him on August 16th - this was my first time fostering a pet and the foster experience I had here was so unhealthy, primarily because of a lack of communication. The point of this review is to offer recommendations for how to do this better next time y'all might have a medically complex pet in need of a foster home.
I fostered my dog because he was "marketed" via email/on your website as needing a foster home to recover in after having a colopexy done on 7/31/24. I reached out to the foster team in the afternoon on 7/31 via email checking in on how his surgery went as I was scheduled to pick him up on Friday, 8/2 to begin foster care. I was told on 8/1 that "We have not received any information, which is typically means no news is good news!" I took that to mean that surgery happened without complications. I arrive on Fri, 8/2, to pick him up and ask about when his follow-up appt for post-op is; I am then told that he did not have surgery and someone will follow up with me about it being re-scheduled. I was also sent home with some antibiotics for him and trazadone for stress/anxiety - but again, was not informed of any follow up medical appts for him re: the antibiotic he was prescribed.
It took me sending a long-winded text to the foster care team at AH on 8/12 asking about when they plan to schedule his colopexy (that originally was said to be scheduled for 7/31 and then to be re-scheduled for a later unknown date) for them to respond the next day via text saying that someone from AH's medical clinic will be in contact with me as all I kept being told was they are "determining the best course of action" for him. The vet, Dr. Rachel, gave me a phone call, in summary, to say that a colopexy was actually attempted on 7/31 but it was too complicated to complete due to my dog's anatomy and a cyst that was found so he was stitched back up and so, because they estimated his future medical costs to be around $15,000 as he would need an ultrasound or CT scan first and a board certified surgeon to complete the colopexy, and with no guarantee of treatment success, their recommendation was to euthanize him.
Imagine my experience from that call - give him back knowing he will be put down or adopt him as is and maybe have to spend $15,000 to help him.
My recommendation here is one of two things: 1) either your interdepartmental communication needs to significantly improve (in this case, between the medical clinic and foster team) OR 2) there needs to be honesty and transparency with foster families - if ya'll knew that he actually had surgery on the 31st and didn't want to tell me that it was too complicated and y'all were not planning to help him, and so instead we wasted 2 weeks of him needlessly waiting around and struggling, when I could have been given full disclosure up front and an opportunity to make the choice on 8/2 to adopt him and get his medical care going through my home vet. Again, I don't think it should have taken me sending a long-winded text to get some clarity.
My other recommendation is this: please schedule follow-up medical appts post-op and let your foster families know - don't just send them home with antibiotics. Bc this is what happens: my then foster dog still developed an infection and it started bleeding the morning of 8/15 - so I had to take the day off work and bring him in to get treated. If he had a follow-up post op appt scheduled, this could have been most likely prevented or at least caught sooner.
The one positive thing from this experience is that AH did waive his adoption fee.
Please don't respond to this unless there is a genuine apology to be offered to Bruce because he deserved so much better from AH. His favorite toys are squeaky toys if y'all want to mail him some. I'm happy to say that he had hi

Compassionate, caring, and clean! We stopped at 4 locations looking for a cat. Of all the places we visited Anderson Humane was by far the best. The people were awesome and they had the largest selection of kitties. We were never rushed or talked to like were 6 year olds.... like at other places. A bit more expensive, but worth every penny!

A very clean, well kept, and professional place to go to adopt your new furry friend
The staff was very kind and willing to tell us about all the kitties they house there, and everyone was very helpful for meeting the kitties as well. They also offer a wide array of information on their wild life work as well
Adoption process was very quick easy, and they offer great resources. Whether it be for donations, adoption, or volunteering, Anderson Humane is a very good choice to look into

If anyone is reading this review. Just know Anderson Shelter does care about the well being for dogs and cats. I adopted my Cat Nobu from this facility in 2022. I can't express how happy I was when I brought him home and got so attached to him. I miss my cat with my all of my heart. I think about him everyday. I am a wreck without my cat Nobu. I loved him with all my of heart. I always said I hated cats, but once I adopted Nobu, also known as John Boy, he changed my whole perspective about cats. I absolutely was so in love with Nobu. He was so affectionate and cuddly and he always loved hugs and make it known when he wanted to make you happy. I share this story because mea and my ex adopted him together. Now that are not together anymore. My heart is so heartbreaking that I will never get to see my sweet and loving cat Nobu ever again. I miss him everyday and I love him more than I love myself. I would sell my soul to save my cats life. That's because I truly with all of my heart loved this cat. Now that he's home. my life feels empty and worthless without my cat Nobu. Nothing will be able to replace him. I just wanted to thank Anderson for giving me the best happy memories and for giving me a chance to adopt this sweet loving cat that I absolutely love with all of my heart. Nobu chose me. I still remember the day I went in and looked at the kittens. And John Boy was no where to be seen. As soon as I sat down to interact with other kittens. John Boy came out of nowhere and he rubbed his face on my hand, and he rolled over on his belly and at that moment. I knew John Boy wanted me to adopt him. I hate that I will never see him again and knowing I paid for his adoption he's gone forever. My. Life will never be the same without Nobu/John Boy. Thank you Anderson Shelter for giving me a purpose and memory of my loving cat Nobu.

Overall I highly recommend the S. Elgin location. They really care about the animal here.
When you are adopting my experience was roughly a hour and a half. They go over a lot of info in that time so it does seem faster however I was quite shocked when I saw the time that had past.
Obviously when adding a new pet to the family you should always have a great experience.

I adopted my cat Pineapple from the Bloomingdale location. I had a great experience meeting her, it was super easy to put her on hold and pick her up the next day. The staff made the process very simple and were very nice. I would definitely recommend adopting from here!
