This place is a joke. They are judgmental children that treat adoption like some intense competition. Went to see a dog. Wanted us to bring our current dogs. We have a black lab who was gentle with the dog, but the smaller dog was nervous. The handler stood by totally mute throughout the process. Not interested in getting to know us. The dog was nervous which is obvious meeting a new dog. When asked if we could hold the pup we were denied. We’ve raised many great dogs between us who lived amazing lives. These people have little interest in finding dogs goods homes. They treat it like some competition show and really overstep. Poor dogs sit there too long because of this. Hate to say not to go here because it’s the dogs that suffer. But what a poor organization.

We adopted our sweet Bodie there 4 years ago and I am grateful everyday that we did. I know a lot of the reviews talk about how they are shooed away due to needing an appointment. I think that is the best practice! So many people (such as the people who had our boy before us) just buy a puppy on a whim or adopt a dog without thinking of the responsibility. I like that WCHS has a rigorous process to adopt to be able to make sure all of their dogs go to the BEST homes.
I am thankful that WCHS took our boy in and I often tear up thinking that someone surrendered him, but man am I glad they did!

Very nice shelter I have donated to them before and the workers/ volunteers seem hard working and caring to the animals.

Awful smell as soon as you walk in. It literally hits you like a ton of bricks. We couldn’t wait to leave to get some fresh air.

Just like everybody else, shoed away at the front door by some arrogant young man. Heck of a way to do business. Poor dogs

this place is all bs. so many rules that if you really wanted to give a pup a hoke they will say no. I called about a pup and was told no that because I don't live here can do it and the pup I want has all this interest bit I've been in the area for almost 3 months and so has she. if you want pups to have good homes than give people a chance to step up

I know everyone's feelings. They did the same to my mom and me. My mother had an American Pitbull, Howard, who was her serves and handicap dog for 10 years, until he retired because of old age. I went to find her another dog, and this time, to adopt, since there are many dogs that need a home. They denied giving her an application and stated she was unable to take care of the animal she would be interested in.
Let me tell you, my mother always took care of her animals, probably better than they take care of their children. I think that was so unfair and disrespectful, discriminating to a handicap individual.
They only reason they give cats a chance if you read their statement, they the 25 dogs, 50 cats. That's why they just give the cats away.
Second, you don't have to reply, Human society it is the same repeat you post to everyone.
Anyway, I found a good dog. She is a Rottweiler, she is Sssooo good with my mom. The only thing the dog can't do it cook. Lol...

LOL WHAT A JOKE! Not AT ALL welcoming. Didn't even offer an introduction or a name?!? Their front gate has a big GO AWAY sign in RED LETTERS that basically says make an appointment and fill out an application BEFORE you can even get a GLIMMER of our animals. I'll update this will a picture soon. Third-degree interrogation and investigation to adopt a pet. Searching my property records and digging into every last aspect of my life. Looks like I'll be adopting off Facebook. I'll take my $500 donation and FAT ANNUAL contributions elsewhere.
Search Facebook and there are plenty of independent rescue organizations that ARE NOT so outrageously ridiculous. Places like this are what FUEL back-yard breeders and Facebook 'pet-sellers'....BIG TIME! Get a CLUE! Good Grief.
PS- Call your local veterinary clinic and ask them about pets available for adoption. In a span of 30 minutes, I talked to two wonderful receptionists/Vet Techs that politely INTRODUCED themselves and asked about for what I was looking. I obviously can't adopt from both locations, but I will certainly DONATE to both of their adoption programs. They were both thrilled to have someone willing to inject cash into a difficult and often thankless job. Vet's are much more eager to place pets with families; and they are FAR more appreciative of the support, apparently.
PPS- It certainly >IS NOT< 'clearly marked' on their website....you have to go to the "Hours and Location" page to see this RIDICULOUS disclosure and policy. People that "stop in and browse" are the ones that often end up adopting....DUH.
Maybe the board of directors of this 'non-profit' should be the ones reviewing and considering all these multiple posted negative experiences of lost adoption opportunities regarding the obnoxious & rude "policies" .... The management staff certainly DOES NOT respond/react/consider/adapt/grow based on polite suggestions.
The "owner" cannot even be bothered to use proper grammar and english when making a hasty & rude reply to criticism.

For an animal shelter, you’d think they’d be more welcoming with allowing people to even look at their dogs. We were shooed away immediately and talked down to in a passive aggressive tone. We didn’t know it was by appointment only, and it was extremely discouraging to be treated like that. Not coming back here ever again.

Great place to rescue a dog. The people are passionate about what they do. Early on we got our dogs from here and very glad we have come back here for our next dog.

We did not end up continuing the adoption process BUT I think this is a wonderful organization. All of the staff are very welcoming and try to be as transparent as possible with the information they have on the animals that are in need of homes. They take very good care of these animals and really work hard with the potential adopters to make sure the animal is going to a forever home and that it’s the best fit. It didn’t work out this time but down the road we would definitely look for a pet with WCHS again and absolutely would donate/support however we can! Thank you for all you do!
