I called and told them my dog needed emergency surgery. They told me Bc I'm from out of town and not a current client they could not help us. Yes I'm new in town. But I will find a different vet to take my dog too.

We took our dog there for boarding for the first time. The place was busy when we got there. The 2 receptionists were not approachable, kept their heads down while talking, asked for name without looking. I told them our dog has sensitive stomach so I brought his own food and to make sure he doesn't eat anything else. I got a call that they needed my consent to treat the ears. I noticed that our dog is scratching his ears before we took him there so I thought maybe a yeast infection. When we picked him up, I was told he had diarrhea and they had to treat him for that, did some labs without letting me know! My bill was hundreds of dollars! But I don't care about that, our dog got sick & didn't tell me about it! Our dog lost weight, the food I brought was barely used! I don't think they even deserve one star.

Friday night very late my dogs got into a scuffle over a toy and i didn't see the cut on my one dogs side until about 20 min or so later. It was pretty deep but not bleeding and he wasn't acting as if it was bothering him. Normally we go to a different vet but they do not take emergency appts after 10pm and their answering machine tells you to call aurora vca or rockford. As i said it was very late and the weather was not that great. I'm not great with night driving and if i didn't have to go over an hour away i wanted to avoid that. I called Bureau Valley's emergency line and the woman who answered was so rude and sounded very irritated that someone was calling so late. She kept shouting at me and after she finally took my information for the vet to call me back she told me i better not let it go to voicemail, and as she was hanging up i could hear her say i don't know what she thinks they're going to do for her. About a half hour later, the on call vet finally called me back and she didn't sound any more pleased as the lady who answered the emergency line. She took all my information about this situation, then proceeded to tell me that since he wasn't bleeding, and didn't seem to be in any pain to wait for our regular vet in the am. She says because she is the only one on call saturday and they are trying not to take any new clients and she is already swamped the next day and really needs her sleep. Basically telling me she didn't feel like helping and to call someone else cause she wanted to go back to bed. I have never been treated so poorly and just totally brushed off. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone if that's how they treat people who are in an emergency situation and need to get their pets taken care of. I ended up taking our fur baby to our regular vet saturday morning. They were able to get him in as soon as they opened and as usual took amazing care of him. Thank god this wasn't a life threatening thing because i likely would have lost my fur baby, thanks to careless brush off of those at Bureau Valley. If I could have given them no stars or negative stars i would have. Shame on them!!!

I would have nothing but praise for this vet clinic, I've taken my two dogs there to be neutered/ spayed and received excellent care for them both times. However, I am only giving a 4 star because I can NOT believe how rude the lady answering the phone after hours for emergencies was that lead me to hang up on her! I recently adopted a young male rabbit, I've never had a rabbit and so I wasn't sure what is and is not normal after neutering him. When I picked him up from the vet I was told that there was quite a bit of swelling and bleeding and to call if I had any questions or worries even if it was after hours ( I doubted that I would need to call but happy about the reassurance.). About 10pm I checked on the rabbit before I headed to bed and notice that he had blood all over his back legs and belly, he was wearing a cone so I know he wasn't able to chew it and he was in his cage laying down so I wasn't sure why he would suddenly have more blood all over. I called the emergency line and was right away yelled at because the lady "couldn't hear me"???wtf, I wasn't even able to get a word out yet! I tried repeating my concern twice stating that I was calling on behalf of my rabbit who had been neutered that day and was covered in blood and I'm concerned. She continued to cut me off asking if I was on a cell phone and stated "WELL THATS HORRIBLE!" So again I tried repeating myself to be cut off by her saying "YOU BROUGHT YOUR DAUGHTER TO THE VET!? WHY WOULD YOU BRING YOUR DAUGHTER TO THE VET! ALL I HEAR IS BLAH BLAH BLAH!" She wouldn't let me get a word out and cut me off every time I tried so I had to hang up. Luckily my fiancé was next to me and has a stern voice so he called back and got her to contact the on-call vet who was very thoughtful and reassuring and took the time to read and go over the post-op notes with me so I knew and understood what the issue most likely was since she had not been the vet who neutered my rabbit. The next day first thing in the morning, the vet who had neutered my rabbit called to check up on him and make sure everything was good! So other then the rude witch, I couldn't ask for a better veterinarian experience from this place!

When we walked in, we were not at all greeted. One of the receptionists just piped up and said "last name" a few times until we realized she was talking to us. Our vet came in, didn't introduce herself, and started touching our puppy (13 weeks) immediately. She referred to her as "it". Our girl was getting the wiggle butts and the vet was trying to check her heart, but I could tell the vet was getting irritated with her because she said "wow this one is a little brat huh?". I brushed off that rude and judgmental comment as maybe playful banter. Then, our girl must've nipped her because you could tell the vet got really angry, grabbed her fur, and flipped her over. Now, she's explaining how to put our dog in a "chokehold" to help her calm down when she's being nippy. She shows us how to pull and tug on her fur in order to "prepare her for vet experiences". While she is explaining, a tech comes in and is explaining medication to me. The vet then says to me, "are you listening? You're going to need to do this too". All the while our girl is trying to get away from her, is yipping, and crying. Then our girl gets her shot and she doesn't even flinch. She said over and over that our puppy is dangerous and she's worried it will be an aggressive and fearful dog. Then she had the audacity to pitch the obedience classes they offer, saying "this dog could really use it".I'm beyond pissed off and no pet deserves to be treated that way EVER. She must like to pretend she's a behavior expert when she actually doesn't have a clue. I'm sick I made the mistake to bring my pet here.

I have been going here with my dogs for four years. Boarding and vet services exclusively. This morning I had an appt for my 7mo old pup to get neutered. I have never had any issues before. I did not know what time they opened and the first door typically takes a bit of strength to open. So I pulled on the first door and it opened but the inside door was locked. I must have been a few minutes early for my 730am appt. I was fine waiting in the entry way until they opened. Another couple of customers came in and one of the clerks came to the door and said they weren't open yet through the locked door. When she finally came out she started yelling at me about the fact that if I have to pull on the door then they aren't open. She said "some people don't know how to do do what they are told". I was so shocked. She kept going on so I said I was leaving. And she said "good". This was in front of all the other customers who also had gathered. If this is how they treat their paying humans who inadvertently open a door that was supposed to be locked, how in the world do they have patience for my fur babies that can't talk or speak up for themselves. There are so many more options. I will never ever put these people in the care of my dogs again.

Dr. Sondgeroth is both a good listener and a good explainer. She has seen all three of our dogs...they all liked her.
