I was recently tasked with obtaining quotes for a reusable crate to be used with a large piece of artwork. The dimensions were 125" x 78" x 7" and 425lbs. I contacted Craters and Freighters for a quote. They returned the quote very quickly and asked me questions I hadn't even thought to ask them or other vendors about my needs for this job. The initial visit with their team in our office put my mind at ease. When their crew came to our office and carefully removed the artwork they were friendly and efficient taking great care not to damage the wall or any furniture. Turnaround time for the job was very quick and the price were quoted was the price that we paid. Thank you for making me look good to my boss. So happy we found a reliable partner. My only request is that I would love to receive one of those pirate t-shirts your crew was wearing (see what I did there?). :)

I purchased a rare large 1950's transmitter from North of Chicago. Craters and Freighters of Chicago handled the pickup and crating, and Craters and Freighters of Philadelphia handled the delivery. The gentleman from whom I purchased the transmitter was very impressed with the professionalism of the team that picked up the transmitter. It was then taken to the Craters and Freighters of Chicago warehouse, where a custom crate was constructed and the unit placed into the crate with extensive padding and cushioning materials. 850 pound crate (and the transmitter inside) arrived in perfect condition. The delivery by Craters and Freighters of Philadelphia was handled just as professionally.

Matt Hyde of Craters & Freighters of South Chicago gets two thumbs up for his responsiveness and attention to detail. To set the scene, I wanted to ship 40 boxes from the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago to Portland, OR while things were just beginning to open up from COVID AND protests were happening across the country. I knew from seeking proposals from other sites that trucking was extremely limited for these reasons. Within the window I needed, Matt was able to get those boxes picked up, delivered--after accurately quoting the cost of the shipment from the photos I sent him. I intend to use Craters & Freighters again.

WOW! What a good experience. I had to have a tower clock shipped across country. Very delicate mechanism & lots of pieces. C&F built a custom wood crate for the clock with all the necessary packing & padding. Item arrived safely with no damage. Matt Hyde was super helpful with all my questions & kept me up to date with the progress of the move. Shipping cost was very reasonable considering all the trouble they went through to build the custom crate. Very professional company.

I can't say enough about this place especially Matt. We were in the process of looking for someone to move mostly boxes from our place in Chicago to Florida and didn't know where to turn. We were recommended this place by a moving organizer and they were great! We worked with Matt who was very patient with my numerous questions and concerns. He either answered immediately or got back to me in a timely matter if I left a message. He worked hard to find a reasonably priced place in Florida to unpack our load and put it in a storage space there. The guys that came by for the pickup were great too. I would highly recommend! Very professional and nice too!

It gives me no pleasure to leave a bad review. I do hope, however, that some good can come out of me sharing my experience. I am currently moving across country and needed someone to pack and ship a small (studio apartment) amount of personal belongings. I contacted Ship Smart, who contracted the work out to Craters & Freighters. I was told they would arrive between 10 AM and 2 PM. Given the wide window, I had to take the entire day off of work. 11 AM rolls around and I called them to reconfirm the appointment. They said they would be here by 2:30. The day had just started and they were already running behind. I then received a call at 1:45 saying that they needed to reschedule because their last job took too long. I explained that I couldn't take another day off of work and asked if they could do the job over the weekend. I spoke with Mathew who did not accommodate my request. I had already missed one day of work waiting for them and wasn't about to waste another. Mathew blamed Ship Smart, saying it was their fault for overbooking Craters & Freighters. I asked to be compensated for the time that I wasted waiting for their movers. Mathew declined. He just blamed Ship Smart. I canceled my order and will now pack and ship my belongings by myself. If you cannot trust a business to honor their commitment to their customers then you should not trust them to handle your personal belongings. You hear horror stories about how dishonest cross country movers can be, and unfortunately, this experience confirmed my fears. Moving forward, this business should provide a smaller window for when they will arrive. Additionally, they should either hire more workers or refuse to take on more business then they can handle. They should provide advance notice when they need to cancel. Had they notified me earlier, I would have wasted less of my day waiting on them. Finally, they should strive to improve their customer service so that when they do make a mistake, they make things right for the customer.
