This place can be so awesome at times, and then disappointing at others. The check in process was bad. A very long line because they don't let people check in early and everyone rushes the counter at 4. The picnic tables had a sign no to them that said picnicking and coolers were not allowed. Lastly, it was a difficult task asking for staff to light the fire in the lodge on a cold morning. If they were more friendly, this place would be 5 stars easily.

Room was small, clean and the decor was nostalgic. The beds were ok. Staff is friendly, onsite food options are good. Vending machines only take cash. Take your own soap ect. Options in the room were not good. Coffee for the room also bad. So go down to the cafe and buy some. The cafe has good coffee. But you can't beat the location. Beautiful. Enjoyed our weekend.

Was here for a work conference. The place needs a deep clean if not a remodel. It also needs an exterminator, many of our group had issues with bugs in their room. The front desk staff was rude but the serving staff at the restaurant and bar were great.

My husband and I had lunch, and the food was amazing. We have the country steak and it was delicious. Green beans were a little over cooked and soft. Waitress we had was very attentive and always smiling. The greeter was very helpful with maps of the grounds and it helped a lot, since it was my husband's first time there. Charcuterie appetizer was delicious as well. Can't wait to go back.

Absolutely terrible. Everyone has the WOKE perspective. HE/SHE restrooms. No breakfast until 8am.We had 1/2 a roll of toilet paper. The t.v didn't work until we had maintenance come and figure it out.No cups in the room until we went to the front desk and asked for some.I will never come again.

Extremely upset my family and our friends come here every year to swim and have fun but this year and stay the weekend we get here and the kiddy pool is drained and were told its now gonna be ANOTHER HOT TUB I guess one wasn't enough. We wouldn't have even came if we new this is how it was gonna be. What are people with little ones like me and our family and friends supposed to do. My little one won't even go in the big pool with a floaty or not and the kiddie pool was perfect for her but Starved Rock Lodge doesn't care about that. Ridiculous!! Another HOT TUB or whatever they're gonna do with it ridiculous!!

We stayed in the hotel wing. It was a comfortable room. Lots of room to stretch out and had a sofa and a table and chairs. However, although the bathroom was very clean, it needs a little updating. Every staff member was so friendly and helpful. Always a smile! And of course, the area is gorgeous! It was our first time staying for a few nights, and we would definitely stay here again.

Sleepless endless nights for me. you will hear a snorer several rooms away. if there are 5 of them you will hear all five. Noise cancelling headphones with White noise could not block the hotel snorers. Bathroom exhaust fan did not drown out snorers. Cold room with no real blankets. Had to sleep with shoes and jacket and bedspread folded over to keep legs warm. Soft Bed sagged. contemplated trying to sleep in the lobby sitting upright on a couch. bedside table was a mini fridge with a coffee pot bolted to it. not enough space to lay a phone on it. Very small rooms, Too small for people who like to sit and chat in hotel room. If you are with someone who is a visual organizer that lays everything out on surfaces and beds, you will be buried, and they will keep losing things. Room and food overpriced when you consider that they also receive state funds to run it. To be fair, all of the CCC lodges are loud and if you want to be first person on trail the CCC lodges are well positioned. If you are an early riser and your roommates are not, you at least can go down to the main lodge and read. You are not trapped in the tiny room. A nearby modern hotel with a lobby or the starved rock cabins might be a better choice. Equivalent meals and drinks in town might be less expensive.

Love the location, general experience, but some of the rooms have very old mattresses. First few visits were fine, but recently stayed in Room 203 and both mattresses were so old and soft that it was impossible to get good sleep.Rooms: Usually great but some need new mattresses.Food & drinks: Good cafe and restaurant.

Checked into our room, found a pair of sandals on the floor in between the beds (from previous guest), leading me to question the level of cleaning done after the last guest checked out.Used the bathroom sink only to find out the sink stopper was not working, holding water in the sink.Got dinner in the Lodge restaurant, poor service and below average food quality especially considering the meal costs.TV is a poor quality cable service with no channel guide options. This will be our first and last time staying here at the Lodge.
