The people of Prairie State Animal Hospital are wonderful, friendly and caring, both for the pets and their humans. Dr. John and his staff have provided loving care for my pets for decades. They coached us on giving fluid infusions to our cat and have reminded us when immunizations are due.

Compassionate and knowledgeable care for both cats and dogs. Followed them from old location to current many years ago, couldn't be happier with their care. We've worked with them on a cat with lymphoma and a dog with diabetes and cataracts. They knew pets by name and cried with us when they passed. Highest recommendation

My dog injured her leg. Took her to see Dr Brancel. She sprained her leg. Dr. gave me some pills to keep the swelling down. Great Doctor, he kept my dog calm while he was looking at het.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE FOR ANY SURGERY OR NON-ROUTINE PROCEDURES!! Good only for shots, anti-flea meds, etc; risky for pet neutering services or diagnostics. The front desk staff is warm and caring, but the doctor (Dr. Brancel) is not. And I am sad to report that our 1 YEAR OLD LAB, NIKKO, DIED ON THE WAY HOME after they performed a stomach surgery that was apparently beyond their capability. They should have referred us to a hospital, rather than trying to take it on themselves. They do not have the proper diagnostic equipment a vet would need to diagnose and evaluate anything beyond the simplest medical conditions. And they are unable/unwilling to keep and monitor your pet overnight after surgery. Now we had gone to Prairie State for years with 3 other dogs. We had one dog spayed there several years before, and she stayed over night. We picked her up the next day, and all was well. We brought our 1 year old Lab to Prairie State because he wasn't eating and was throwing up and starting to lose weight. We suspected that he had eaten something odd (like Labs are likely to do), but we couldn't figure out what it might have been. Their exam showed that there was something in his stomach, but they could not tell what it was, nor how much damage was done. My husband took the dog in for surgery in the morning. We live less than two miles away from the vet. To my shock, he phoned me later that day as he was leaving the vet, and said THAT THEY HAD PLACED OUR DOG IN MY HUSBAND'S CAR, AND HE WAS DRIVING HOME WITH THE DOG IN THE BACK SEAT, AFTER EXTENSIVE STOMACH SURGERY A FEW HOURS BEFORE. I asked my husband, "Why they didn't keep the dog overnight for observation??!!." My husband said they were not coming in the next day, and there would be nobody there to watch our dog overnight. He said the doctor seemed a little worried about doing the surgery, but said we should just watch Nikko, and call an emergency room vet if we see any problems. I jumped in the car and got home from work about 20 minutes after my husband got back from the vet (less than 2 miles away), and he was in tears. OUR SWEET PRECIOUS Nikko had died in the back seat on the way home from the vet. I called the vet immediately to tell them what had happened. The receptionist cried with us, but they still cashed our $2,180 check for the operation. IF YOU VALUE YOUR PET, PLEASE TAKE THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR DIAGNOSTIC WORK OR SURGERY. They are OK for shots & meds, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU AVOID THEM FOR MEDICAL DIAGNOSES. Share review Write an update Remove review

We've been bringing our fur babies to Prairie State since they opened at their smaller location on Madison. We've been beyond thrilled with their service and care. Just this week, we needed to leave town for a family emergency and needed to board our pups. They were more than accommodating giving us a boarding certificate despite their busy schedule that morning. We appreciate this type of family treatment even between appointments!

As I am putting my dog down tomorrow I have to put the blame on Prairie State. The vet failed to do a biopsy of a growth which lead to fatal Cancer. Do not go here unless you want same poor service and care as we experienced. The facility was too busy to provide thorough exam. It is unforgivable.

We have been bringing our dogs to Dr John for 20 years and he and his staff have been very professional and yet very caring, too. These people really love the dogs that come to them for help
