The owner John is a very good person to deal with. He is very knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. I only needed something small done but he treated my repair as If it was a big job. Do not let the shop fool you because it not super high tech looking. He knows his stuff. He has speakers that he designs and builds that will blow your mind. I have listened to 15-20k$ speakers that cant come close to his own built and designed speakers.

I took a pair of JBL 4401s here after Saturday Audio Exchange recommended Van L. My 4401s never seemed to work right. John and co are extremely knowledgeable and he gave me a demo of his in house brand (which sound great). I dropped off my speakers and had them back, repaired, in 2 weeks. So far they sound great. Van L is a friendly shop and they know what they’re doing.

I was in here last week to have a speaker tested and I left with a very good impression. John was helpful and friendly and I could tell he was very good at his craft. He showed me the exceptional-sounding speakers he manufactures and these will definitely be considered when I'm in the market for a new pair. I wish there were more small businesses like these in New York where I live but unfortunately the number keeps dwindling.

Wonderful costumer service and quality work. I had a pair of early 1960's AR3 loudspeakers that needed some love. Not only were the woofer surrounds refurbished (keeping the original cloth surrounds and paper cones), but the midrange drivers were rebuilt, and the tweeters had been recovered with the absorbing acoustic material. The crossover networks and pods were rebuilt from scratch, while maintaining access to the original speaker terminals in pristine condition. A true driver restoration and electronics upgrade. These newly refurbished loudspeakers took a few weeks to break in, but when they did, the soundstage was deeper and wider than before, the mids came alive in a sweet and clear way, making vocals more vivid and detailed but never harsh, and the bass became more refined and detailed with just enough bloom to make itself present but not overpower the presentation. The AR3 sound is not for everyone, and I go back and forth between these and other speakers. No loudspeakers is perfect, but my restored AR3 loudspeakers are wonderful and I enjoy them, worry-free of damaging my gear.

Bought a pair of speaker in wicker park and they told me the only guy to fix em is Van L , he fixed em up all right and I ended up buying his quartets, one of those timeless speakers crafted by a wizard, one will cherish for ages. I’d stand by John , high end quality for a fair price.

Went to this store to have 2 phono plugs soldered to my speaker cables. Was told the cost would be $20 approx..I agreed to the price.John said he would order the parts..turns out he soldered 2 used plugs on the cables and charged me $60! For that kinda of money..I get the service charge...I should have gotten brand new plugs!! Needless to say. I will no longer use his services

The store lost my receiver. Dropped off a faulty Denon receiver nearly 3 years ago. I'd call them every few months to hear that "it's not done yet"....after 3 years I finally went and bought a sound bar, got sick of not having my receiver. If it couldn't be fixed that's one thing, but I simply never heard back from them, and made many follow up calls to the store with no resolution ever. I guess that receiver is gone forever.
