I have went twice at 1130pm1 cashier 1 bagger- self checkout closed no one at service desk. Line all the way down to aisle 9.The cashier exhausted but still pleasant and smiling at 12am. He is a long time loyal employee who is at the mercy of bonus racking managers who forecast this. On the eve of mothers day, he was by himself with 20 people in line wait time was exhausting and same happened last night. A giant like Jewel Osco who is supposedly a handicap friendly employee uses them to max and gets a bunch of “non handicap” people to boss those around like the ladies at our friendly service desk here. Put some more people on the register! Or leave the check outs open! You say your open till 12am so provide fully till 12am!

A few years ago I complained to the manager of this Jewel store (Dempster Street in Niles,Il) of rude employees. He listened but nothing changed. But I decided to shop at one of its competitors around the corner, whose employees seem to love their customers and go out of their way to treat us courteously. However, a few weeks ago, my girlfriend suggested I give Jewel on Dempster another chance, especially since it had been years since my complaint and she thought they might be doing a better job with their employees. So I did. But a few weeks ago I mistakenly bought the wrong item ---- frozen pork sausage links. I was unable to bring it back until today. The woman at customer service was incredibly rude to me - worse than the ones of a few years ago. She refused to accept the pork sausage links, claiming I had waited too long (less than a month). When I pointed out that the package was frozen and within the sell by date and that only a few yards away, the store was selling the same product with the same sell by date as the ones I was trying to return, she became even more belligerent. She told me it didn't matter that I was returning packages that were still saleable. She refused to take the packages back. I thought of complaining to a manager. But I thought "What's the use?" I complained a few years ago of rude employees and obviously it didn't do any good. Their employees still don't know how to treat customers with courtesy and respect. Even if she couldn't take the packages back - and, as I said, they were still as saleable as the ones they were still selling - she could at least have done it in a customer friendly way. So - no more Jewel. It's back to their competitor for me. I only wish I could give them zero stars.

One cashier is rude as hell and making mistakes because all she cares about is rushing people out of the store. Ignored customers who talked to her too.

Holy smokes, did I have a horrible shopping experience on Thursday, 11/11/2021. So awful, that here I am wasting my time on this f'ng platform. So not only did I feel disrespected but also, unwelcomed and embarrassed. I stopped in at this location after work so it was around 7pm to pick up some deli turkey meat for my son's weekly lunch routine. There were no customers at the time, just me, and the clerk seemed to be doing some routine deli slicer maintenance. Once at the counter, I tried to get the clerk's attention by greeting him saying, "hey buddy," but of course I was ignored. After a few more attempts, he finally stops what he feels takes priority - cleaning the deli slicer - and gave me the most, what the "f" do you want stare! He didn't say a word, just a dirty a** look as if stole his high school girlfriend or something! Then, instead of him saying, How may I help you, he just continued to mean mug me, like WTF?! I swear this man's was trying to step to me or something, I honestly don't know what his deal was, but boy things could have gotten ugly quickly. Fortunately, me being the mature adult, I kept my composure, politely ask for my order and left. However, this guy with glasses felt it was appropriate to be awful and disrespectable. Perhaps he just didn't want to be bothered with my business, or he really dislikes his job - either way, not my fault. Perhaps, he was having an off day, but if this behavior is consistent, then I'm sure it's happening to other customers - a huge caveat! In summary, the level of disrespect in such a short amount of time, was atrocious. I get that the job might not be ideal, and they have to deal with customers, but in my opinion, I did absolutely nothing to earn such an egregious experience. To this kid: next time I'm in this store, try harder, if you, for some unforeseen reason, have a quarrel with me personally - a complete stranger- we can handle that outside, mean mugging is a b**** move - let me know fam.

This was one of the saddest grocery stores I've been in. I came in looking for some snacks, treats, and a breakfast food for the following morning, and was hoping to also snag something basic for lunch. I left with a muffin, some pretzels, and a few packaged chocolates, and got lunch elsewhere. I guess Tuesdays at 12 is when they rearrange the entire store, so I couldn't find/access anything easily. Whole aisles were practically bare while associates transported inventory around in shopping carts. The prepared food options are pretty meh--fast food will be similar, cheaper, and fresher. The packaged foods I did get were old, and the chocolate had bloomed, suggesting improper storage. I ended up trying the muffin today so I could bundle together my disappointment in one snack session. That was a good call, since it was terrible, and now I can plan for a more inspiring breakfast option tomorrow, perhaps at a gas station or run-down Dunkin.

Come here quit often, never been so pissed! Waited in line for 15 minutes while the cashier went into depth about the loyalty program to someone who clearly doesn't have the mental capacity to understand it!.... Something that should have been done at customer service. At least 25 people in line with carts filled! Only 2 lanes open! Finally got up and they closed the lane! Rediculas! Especially during a busy time... I now wasted 1/2 in line because of how inept this store is!

Based on the CDC's safety guidelines and the directives put in place by the State and Jewel's corporate offices this location at Dempster and Greenwood in Niles is not complying. They have "issues" ensuring the safety of their customers and their employees. I had business at the Customer Service desk. On the counter they had installed 2 Plexiglass Sneeze Guards with a 6 inch open space. Instead of standing behind the Plexiglass, the Rep stood at the open space and spoke with me. Every other cashier station should be used to ensure a distance of 6 feet between cashiers and customers. Last weekend I noticed they were using successive cashier stations and I called the manager to complain. I was told, "We only do what we are told to do." I called the Corporate office and was told that all stores were informed to utilize every other cashier. I asked that the District Manager be notified. I had to stop in Wednesday to pick up a prescription and groceries for my elderly parent and as I checked out, I heard a Customer Service Rep. assign a cashier to the register directly behind me. The cashier was now 2 feet away from me. I told the Customer Service Rep. I thought the policy was to use every other cashier station. She said, "Not when we have issues." I have shopped at other Jewels since the safety precautions were put into place. This is the only Jewel where I have observed noncompliance.

My review is for a specific experience as jewel, not for jewel as a whole. I purchased a cake from their bakery last minute on a Friday, definitely after the lady behind the counter (the artist) was done for the day but she agreed to my request and drew on the cake according to my instruction. I know this seems like a simple thing but considering that I was late and she still stayed back to do this for me means a lot, maybe because the person who this cake was for means a lot. Idk. Anyways, the lady was nice and I hope she reads this and knows that she makes a difference. After the cake drawing was complete, I used self checkout so I had no other encounters with anyone else. I also don't really shop at jewel so I don't have much info on other customer service reps. (From the reviews I read at a glance here, it seems like other staff members should learn how to be kind. It makes a difference!)

I recently purchased Jewel gift card for a friend who had back surgery so he could order food for delivery. When he tried to use the gift card he was told he could not use it for on line orders. Why NOT? That was the reason why i bought it for him. He can not get out of the house right now. Think twice before you buy a gift card
