I called to request for an estimate over the phone and was told that I needed to schedule an appointment to get an estimate for a dress. I came in early for the scheduled appointment and was told to change into my dress. I changed into the dress and Laura walked in and started marking the dress without even asking what I was there for. After I changed out of the dress the same lady I spoke with on the phone asked for the dress without telling me the price to get my dress altered. I asked for the price and she was charging $35 for a simple dress that was only one material. She then took my dress back and told Laura I didn’t want to get it altered. Laura then told me that she needed to charge $10 for marking the dress. I told her that no one had disclosed that with me that there would be a charge just for an estimate. She claims that she did not know that I just wanted an estimate. Usually when you schedule an appointment anywhere, the worker notates the reason as to why you are going there and takes down any additional details for your appointment. Well, when I came in I assumed that they already knew that I was there for just an estimate, since the lady I spoke with on the phone was there. She should’ve done her job and communicated my appointment details with Laura beforehand. Laura’s excuse was that the lady I spoke to on the phone was “new” and that she was “sorry” that I was not told that but I still had to pay regardless of it being their mistake. They would not let me leave with my dress without paying the $10 fee. This place is very very unprofessional and I would not recommend unless you want to get scammed. The fact that there was such poor communication between the workers as to why I was there for my SCHEDULED appointment is very disappointing and extremely unprofessional. They claim to be “very professional” but their actions and attitude show otherwise.

TLDR// Laura, the owner of this establishment, is racist and/or colorist. If you’re not white or a light skinned hispanic, skip this place and go somewhere else. And if you’re a white person with a racial conscience, then don’t support a place who treats Black people differently. I expect to be treated in the same way as clientele of all races and skin colors when I pay for a service, and that was not my experience at this establishment.
My experience: My mother is a very light skinned Black woman, and was wearing a mask when she entered the store, so you could only see her eyes. When my mom walked in, Laura greeted her in a very chipper tone and asked her what she came in for. My mom pointed to me, since I was the one who needed a dress alteration. When she turned and saw me, a dark skinned Black woman with an afro, she immediately said “oh.” And looked away. Okay… I ignored the difference in her energy between the way she greeted me and my mother. Then I tried on the dress I needed to get hemmed for a wedding. Laura rushed me the entire appointment and I didn’t know how to answer a few of her questions, so I called out to my mom who was in the next room and couldn’t see what we were doing, to come in. Laura immediately sighed and threw up her hands when I did this… I chose to ignore her exasperation at my harmless action of asking my mom for help. Then when I was paying her for the service, she was very short with me and didn’t look me in the eyes, even once.
A couple of days later I came in to pick up my dress. Another employee came in to greet me and ask what I needed. Laura walked in behind her and when she saw me, instead of greeting me (or even acknowledging my presence in the slightest) she legit turned around and walked away. I tried on my dress in the bathroom since someone else was in the fitting room at the time. When I was done, the employee asked me if everything was okay. She told me have a good day and I sat down in the front to wait for my Uber.
While I was waiting, I heard how kind and soft Laura was with the people she was helping in the alteration room. When they were all done and walked out, she once again saw me and didn’t acknowledge me or ask me how my dress was. Instead she was silent until two other white women walked in. Once again, her demeanor changed and she was incredibly kind and nice with them. It was astonishing at how bothered she was my presence compared to any other customer I saw her interact with.
I am so taken aback by the clear difference in the way she treated me versus every single other client she came into contact with. I am writing this because in 2024, no one should have to deal with clear racism.

Shady and unprofessional. First visit, brought 3 items to be altered: coat that needed lining replaced and two pullovers that needed the sleeves altered. Laura was rude and abrupt from the moment I entered. Quoted $150 to do the lining of the coat because, "that's hard work." Price wasn't the issue so much for me, as was the quote for mid-January in timing to get the coat back, as she "off for vacation the rest of the year." I was then asked to pay in full as that's her policy, when I inquired what the process was should the alteration of garments not be to my satisfaction, was given no answer other than, "that won't happen - because she said so." When moments earlier, she professed, "she's not perfect and mistakes happen." When I asked for clarity, was told to take my business elsewhere. Complete clown show - would never come back.

She does profesional work as apposed to an alternation I would do if I had the time. She reproduces the exact type of seem that was present on the pants when I bought them. I've have had alterations on pants where the seem is hidden from the exterior when I buy them and when I get them back from other seamstresses there is a very visible straight line seem. So, if you want it done correctly go to her. It might cost a bit more but you will like the work.

I needed a last-minute hem and halter strap alteration for a bridesmaid dress and it was done perfectly and on-time. Before, the dress sagged up top and my chest had zero definition - definitely recommend ensuring the halter is fitted correctly!

Very unorganized. Went to pick up my dress for the final fitting they couldn't find it and come to find out it was not even altered and I had to wait an hour for it be altered. She also took another client right before finishing me up making me wait longer.

Good work, but boy oh boy, is she expensive - $100 to shorten-up a hem on a my daughter's prom dress.I guess lesson-learned - I'll now know to ask for a ballpark price, BEFORE any work starts.
