This review is being written for those considering seeking health care at Kirby Medical Center. Know that if you are partially vaccinated or not vaccinated at all and are not willing to be vaccinated, they will not be willing to take you on as a new patient. I filled out their 9-10 page new patient form for myself and then another for my child. About a week and a half later we received a call from a Kirby staff member. They said the doctor we requested noticed my child was not up-to-date on some of their vaccinations and if that would be something we would be willing to do. I said no. They then went on to inform me that because we were not willing to do that that the doctor would not be willing to take us on as new patients. They further said that they believed there were no doctors at KMC that would take on new patients if they were not willing to be vaccinated.

This isn't something I find easy to write, I don't often write a bad review and to my knowledge have never done so for a hospital that I can recall. However, maybe it's because I'm not from this area I just don't know the right people to talk to in these situations.
Our first encounter with Kirby er was for our 6yr old son back February. He presented with symptoms of appendicitis and it had only been 18 day since I had witnessed my mom passing at a hospital and I was having issues going so my husband took our son while I stayed home with our baby daughter. Later that evening my husband called to tell me they were doing a CT, the Dr came in to talk and my husband put me on the phone and I asked questions about his labs and CT. I then asked if they could please send copies with my husband so that I could see everything in writing, I was told that he couldn't do that but that he would have the nurse show my husband how to set up the patient portal. We were also told that if he needed surgery that they couldn't do surgery on a child that young, he was sent home around midnight, they couldn't figure out the portal so they printed his lab results and sent him home. Once they got home to Decatur, I looked over his labs and yep he had appendicitis, we said a prayer and had to sleep a few hours before we could drive to springfield, took the paperwork with us and he was in surgery in less than 24hrs. Had it ruptured it would have killed him.
Fast forward to today. My Dr. at the VA wanted me to be seen for a for a possible ectopic pregnancy. I am having an MRI on Thursday however my period was late, even though I'm on birth control, I having severe pain on my left lower quadrant that has been getting increasingly worse. I do have an ovarian cyst on that side, but the pain is radiating down my inner groin and up my back. I explained to the receptionist why I was there and they were nice, I was taken back, the tech had me pee in a cup. She took me to my room to do my vitals and the nurse came in and was immediately irritated. "Why are you here?" So I was trying to explain again. "Well, did you take an at home test?" Yes, it was negative. "So then why are you here?" Again trying to explain the entirety of the situation. Never once did she ask about my last cycle, or how many pregnancies I'd had. Dr came in I tried showing him my ultrasound that I had done on April 10th he glanced at it and said nothing, that was Bradley Peterson. No exam of any kind was done whatsoever. If they had asked, they'd have know I've had 23 pregnancies, with 2 prior ectopics that cost me one of my tubes. I have a history of kidney stones and even if it wasn't an ectopic, why wasn't I checked for torsion of my ovary? They didn't pay attention to my medication, they listed a medication I don't even take. They drew a CBC and an HCG quant and released me and said they call me with the numbers and never did. The nurse had me sign the release before giving me my paperwork. The paperwork for reason seen says: Feared condition not demonstrated- I was sent from my own Dr for possible ectopic and this is what's put on paperwork? The nurse told me that the paperwork had information to access my patient chart or portal and there's nothing there. It's about senior life solution, I'm 40!! I have never in my life walked into an er with abdominal pain and been treated so poorly, I'm a disabled veteran who was just doing what her Dr asked her to do because I'm having a procedure done Thursday. What happened to compassion in the medical field? I came in, I was calm and polite I wasn't loud or obnoxious or rude in any way so I cannot comprehensive the level of insensitivity.

Been using services at Kirby for over 10 years and love the care they give. The doctors all run on schedule and the ER is always fast and take their jobs with pride as you can tell with the care they give. I've had same day surgery and absolutely love the staff. I cannot say enough nice things about Kirby and all the staff.

Never going back, The ER doctors and nurses would constantly interrupt after asking a question, staff generally seemed cold and didn't seem to care whether or not they actually solved any issues. It felt like they just wanted to find a temporary solution and kick us out. They said nothing wrong. They didn’t run any test at all. They said follow up with ur dr.
This is ridiculous!

I had excellent care on the inpatient floor. All the Nurses were very attentive and made sure my medication and pain medication were given on time. The nursing assistants were excellent and also provided care. A special shout out to Kandi and Shelby as they had a challenging time with me. They were always kind and compassionate. Every person I was in contact with were always very pleasant and respectful; the Dr's on staff, lab techs, xray techs, housekeeping, food service and the therapy services. You all were very comforting in what was a difficult time in my life.

My experience here was wonderful. I was terrified and in extreme pain. The wonderful ladies Tia, Jenny, and Maddie made quick moves to provide me the medical attention I needed to get relief. Their care and concern was super comforting and appreciated bc going to the doctor is still scary. Although my aid was a rough process to recovery, I’m super happy and thankful these wonder women were the ones with me and helped me on my way to relief and recovery ❤️ ??? Bless them! You’re in great care and concern here.

Kirby is the worst clinic in the world. Still living in the stone ages with their equipment. Bradley Peterson, unworthy doctor who laugh at the people he see (aka my pregnant wife). He the main reason I’m given them a one star

I've mailed my new patient papers in and then faxed them in twice and every single time they are lost and I'm not able to even get consideration as a new patient. Called multiple times to check, last time the woman who answered took down my phone number and told me she would look into my paper work being lost, bring it up with a manager to see what the problem is, and call me back. I haven't heard back in over a week. I *cannot* go to Springfield clinic where I live and siu had a wait time of over 6 months for a new patient. I wanted kirby because it's the closest to me but now it seems like I'll have to drive to champaign to see anyone in network and without waiting 6 months.

Very nice doctors, very nice staff. NEVER GO TO THE ER. With insurance you will pay over A GRAND for advice and some pills. Just criminal prices man. Feel bad for the elderly i really do. Hats off to the kind doctors though they are really nice

Amazing staff. Emergency Room Receptionist tonight was very kind and welcoming. The RN that took care of my baby was super caring! Super glad we came to Kirby Medical Center ER. We will be back again, the care here was excellent and worth the 35 minute drive from our hometown!! ??
