I have been bringing my birds to see Dr. Ness for close to 30 years. He is hands down the best exotic vet in the Chicago area. He has several other vets that work in his practice, and I trust all of them, but Dr. Ness is definitely my favorite. I needed to bring in my parakeet on an emergency basis, and I was able to get an appointment the same day, which is rare, but I was very thankful. She was able to be treated on the spot and Dr. Ness and the tech answered all my questions about the treatment and follow ups.

I lost one of my first bunnies a couple years ago and took him to see my dog's vet who had a exotic vet on staff, but I was told by other bunny parents that my experience at that vet was not a full exam and other things could have been done and I also got information that was not exactly correct (such as not needing to neuter one of my bunnies)- so I am a bit anxious with my three bunnies' care. I completely trust Ness and won't go anywhere else! My buns have been seen by Dr. Krumm, Dr. Ness and Dr. Nye, all who have taken great care of them. They are very thorough with the exam and with addressing all my concerns. The vet techs are very helpful and caring to each pet and the receptionist are efficient and friendly- I'm bad with names so I can't name a specific one but everyone is great! My bunnies are all very comfortable going to the vet, they all sploot in the exam room- Oswald, Iggy and Penelope appreciate you all!

IF YOU HAVE A BIRD DON’T TAKE THEM HERE!!!!It's been 3 months since my beloved budgie passed away and It's taken me a while to want to write this review as it causes me a lot of pain.3 months ago, Dr. Ness advised me to bring my bird in to get a gram strain as he had a little bit of gloppy poop but was still very active. I wanted to do it as just a precaution in case he had something. So I brought my bird and his cage mate together as he has a hard time leaving her side. A vet tech named Jake took them from me into the back to collect the sample. When my birds came back, the one that was caught had his feathers very messed up as if someone had a hard time catching him and looked a little stressed. I thought maybe he was just a little upset from the visit and so we went home. When we got home he started regurgitating and opening his wings as if he was hot.I immediately called them back and told them everything that was going on and they told me he was nauseous. The vet tech named Jake also left me a voicemail lying saying that the bird carrier smelled like smoke and maybe that was the reason. If that was true don’t you think they would both be affected? And why didn’t you warn me while I was there to tell me if they are so sensitive? They told me to call them in the morning and tell me how he was doing but he ended up passing away during the night. I followed their advice about him being nauseous and he passed away. When I called the following morning talking about potential trauma they told me that's not possible as their vet techs are taught “how to handle birds”. The receptionist was very rude and lacked empathy because after she told me that she asked if I wanted him to get cremated there. They did not want to discuss potential trauma but blamed it on my bird saying it might have been because he was not cooperating. Which is so disgusting to say.

Thank you for taking such great care of my frog, Disney. I highly recommend this veterinarian for exotics. They took care of our guinea pig, frog, rabbit, and serma chickens. They are great with amphibians.

If you have a large bird, do not allow them to take them to the back to be caught. We had seen Dr. Krumm and the techs for our hyacinth for a regular blood draw in June and they brought him back quiet, unable to talk, breathe properly, which lasted until he passed. They refused to consider trauma from being caught when he was fine prior to the visit and when all the blood work came back fine and physical was fine except for a new clicking sound when he tried to breathe, nothing pointed to infection, they did not want to consider trauma or admit to a mistake. When your pet passes from their care, they will never reach out again or contact you and delete his info from your patient page.

I do not recommend Ness Exotic due to our horrible experience. We were referred to Ness by our vet due to it being an emergency and our vet was performing surgeries that day so he wouldn't be able to see our rabbit. Dr. Krumm was the one who we saw for the appointment. She looked over our rabbit and told us what she thought was the problem. She told us that she would have to run bloodwork that would take a week to get the results to make sure she was correct and wouldn't give us the medication until the bloodwork came back because she doesn't like "giving out medication like candy". Well all they did was take bloodwork and send us home with some "ibuprofen" to help make him be more comfortable. Our beloved pet's condition deteriorated extremely fast and he began having seizures and died 48 hours later. No one from Ness ever called to check up on him like all our other vets have done for our sick pets in the past. No one at Ness ever called to give us his bloodwork results. I had to call TWICE and ask for them. I called after he died because I needed to know what it was my rabbit died from. Sure enough he was positive for what Dr. Krumm failed to give us medication for that condition and I know if Dr. Krumm would have started him on medication that day when we brought him in, our beloved rabbit would still be here with us today. I will never return as they have completely lost my trust and I see how little they care about the sick pets that are brought in from our horrible experience with Ness Exotics/Dr. Krumm.

Very helpful with our 5 month old bearded dragon… I love that you can even call after you’ve seen them and talk with a vet tech if you’re have questions and they are very responsive

Wouldn’t trust my bunny to anyone else. They are professional and very knowledgeable. They saved my bunny by diagnosing an aggressive Cancer to her Paw. She ended up needing an amputation. It was very scary for us because we know how fragile bunnies are but we knew she was in the best hands. Then, they also saved our Guinea pig who became so sick we thought we were going to lose her, again they acted fast and successfully treated her and got her healthy. All through this, they were patient, kind, and super gentle and loving to our baby. You can tell they absolutely love their job.We love them so much that now we are taking our cat for holistic vet care. I trust them so much, I know they truly care about their patients.

Trustworthy place to bring rats and other exotic animals! I love this place and have brought all 3 of my rats in at different times for various rat needs.

Dr.Ness is great with exotics. I brought in my uromastyx for a checkup and he prescribed some vitamins that helped him out of his little rut. Turns out that’s just what he needed. He’s doing very well now!

Love these guys they're amazing. The most knowledgeable small animal doctors I have ever been to. Extremely caring, polite, and helpful staff. There is a reason they are so popular. If you're second guessing it, just do it, just pay the 80$ to hold your appointment, and they put it towards paying at the end. I second guessed it and went somewhere else and regret not coming here sooner. If you live far, it is worth the drive.
