Coco has a heart murmur. We were very worried about her spay surgery. We live in Crystal Lake and went to Animal Medical Center in Lake Villa because we adopted her through Ruff Luck and it was free. It was a 45 min drive. The tech was super nice! Cinder, the resident cat, greeted us with her beautiful blue eyes=}. We dropped Coco off and 9am and picked her up at 2pm. She was a little sore for a day or two and back to herself in less than a week. This place is great then vet and the staff really care! Thank you!

Terrible customer service. Waited 20 minutes on hold for them to tell me they can’t help me. They only offer service in the morning during the week. Impossible for regular Monday-Friday workers to ever be serviced here. Also got attitude by worker.

My 13 year-old dog had a dental abscess and broken molars. We were very nervous to put her through the surgery because of her old age, but we knew it would increase her quality of life if she got her teeth removed. Dr. Matar and his team were very thorough and cared for her very well. They were friendly and reassuring. We received a call in the middle of her procedure to update us on what was going on (she ended up having an additional cracked tooth that needed to be removed). When we went to pick her up, we received a stack of paperwork detailing what teeth were removed, medication details, her chemistry and info about her blood work, etc. Overall, we had a great experience.

I have always been happy with how they've treated my furry family members. Excellent treatment at fair prices - I highly recommend!

Disregards emergencies when the doctors themselves messed up surgeries, then won’t answer your calls. Really flakey. They promise one thing then go back on their word. Better vet services out there. Can’t believe this place has 4 stars.

Doesn't care for animals, lies about what they recommend to clients, and then tells the business of a client they have no business saying. They perform surgeries incorrectly, their equipment isn't up to par (specialists can't even determine things from the pics), they offer to help them back peddle and say they they recommended something didn't recommend to make the clients look bad. Innocent animals are dying because of the neglect of this facility and this is where we should go to protect our pets not deer for their lives.

I can't find the review options so making a status to let everyone know that my dog died under the care of Animal Medical Center of Lake Villa after what should have been a routine spay procedure. My healthy, beautiful, 2.5 year old Rosie was taken on the 9thto be spayed. She never started recovering and seemed to be declining so we took her back in on the 15th She was over 10lbs less than she had previously been. She wouldn't even get up to go to the bathroom we would have to carry her. The doctor took X-rays that were of such poor quality, nothing could be determined. He thought she needed anti nausea and new pain meds and said he saw no issue in a bad X-ray to ease my worry and sent me home to force feed her meds and soft food she didn't need. What she did need was a surgery to reverse the intestinal torsion that happened due to her surgery. We continued to try to get Rosie to take the meds And wet food for a day but continued to see her decline. I called back at 6am the next morning concerned because she still was not doing any better I left a message and they never called back. My husband called them AGAIN later in the day nearly throwing a fit after calling other places to see if they could help us since we weren't hearing back. This is when the doctor sent his X-ray to a specialist that CONFIRMED THE X-RAY WAS INSUFFICIENT QUALITY TO DIAGNOSE. It's then he realized his mistake in ASSUMING WHAT WAS WRONG. HE CALLED ME PERSONALLY TO SAY HE WOULD SEE HER AGAIN AND FIND THE ISSUE. BY THE TIME WE BROUGHT HER BACK AGAIN SHE WAS NEARLY PARALYZED AND COULDNT USE ANY OF HER LIMBS. We carried her into the office. New X-rays were taken and when the issue was discovered they couldn't operate because she was so lethargic and unstable. He then left her there overnight where she died alone. Instead of informing us of what's going on and asking if we wanted her euthanized for cruelty reasons or if we wanted to TRY TO GO TO AN EMERGENCY 24 HOUR CARE PLACE. Immediately after calling me and explaining to me Rosie died, he offered to PAY FOR A NEW DOG AND OFFERED TO GIVE IT FREE MEDICAL ATTENTION! AS WELL AS CREMATING ROSIE FOR FREE. He is now refusing to help with another dog and saying he never said he would pay for a new dog or it's medical expenses, only that he would help get another dog and help with expenses. When I called to asked for the medical records, I got a call just minutes later FROM THE DOCTOR HIMSELF GIVING ME GRIEF FOR ASKING FOR THE RECORDS AND QUESTIONING ME ON WHY I NEED THEM!!! But when my husband went to get her ashes today, he back pedals on what he offered. Gets absolutely defensive and thinks he did everything right. After telling us multiple times over the phone what the issue was and why she passed we didn't get an autopsy done because he told us they knew the reason. Now conveniently, he is saying he DOESNT know the reason and would've needed an autopsy to "tell for sure". He has lied now also saying he directed me to take her to an emergency vet! I WOULDVE DONE ANYTHING HE RECOMMENDED. HE TOLD ME TO GET HER TO HIM WHEN I CAN. SO THATS WHAT I DID. My dog did not have a quick death. She did not just accidentally die on the table or during after care from surgery. Or a simple complication. She suffered horribly. We watched her body kill itself. We force fed her meds and food and watched her vomit it up. This was so incredibly traumatic and now we are left without our girl and no responsibility was taken for her death that didn't need to happen! Please learn from my experience here. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING YOUR ANIMALS HERE. IF YOU GO THROUGH AHA THIS IS WHO THEY USE BEWARE!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. This places negligence killed my dog. She was spayed on Tuesday 05/09/23, and by Monday 05/15 she had only eaten once and threw it up, and she was also staring to vomit up all the water she drank. We took her back in on 05/15 to see what was wrong. He did an XRay and said she's fine. Gave her an anti nausea shot, pain meds, put her on a special diet and sent her home, and tried to charge me another $400 on top of the $400 I paid for the spay. We told him this is a direct result of his surgery and we are not paying him to fix his mistake, nor did we have another $400 at that moment to pay him even if we wanted to. He decided to care for her anyway without charging me. She continued to decline over the next 24 hours, so the morning of 05/17 we called, and they wouldn't answer, so we left a message. By lunch time they still hadn't called back (we know they check their messages in the morning and make callbacks they've done it before to us) so I called them from work and kept calling until I got through. I had to threaten litigation to get him to talk to us. He said he had no idea what the issue was and that he had to send the x-ray he took to a specialist. The specialist responded saying the image was insufficient quality for diagnosis, and he had to take new images for any diagnosis to take place. He called us told us to bring her back (on 0517) so he could take new images. He said he knows we couldn't afford to go to the animal ER, so just bring her back to him because he said he has a heart and wants to help animals. Well, he found the issue that night (intestinal torsion) but couldn't operate on her because she was too unstable by this point. So he LEFT HER ALONE TO DIE IN HIS CLINIC THAT NIGHT. He didn't try to get her to a 24-hour facility. He didn't call me to tell me what was happening or that she may pass thru the night. Didn't offer to humanely euthanize her or anything. He just left her there alone to die in a strange place with nobody to comfort her. He did NOT recommend we take her to an ER because he assumed we couldn't afford it since we refused to pay for him see her on 05/15, since the issue was because of his surgery. The next day when he called to tell me she died he was extremely apologetic and said he knows he can't replace her but he would pay for us to get another dog from a rescue, cover any medical expenses that dog has in its LIFE, and pay for the cremation of my dog that passed. When I went to pick my dogs ashes up today I told him I want everything he's offering in writing and he immediately backtracked and said he would only "help" with getting another dog and says he did nothing wrong. The issue she had was 100% preventable if her stomach was tacked down during the spay. Something he's supposed to offer before the surgery, and he never even mentioned it. We didn't even know it was something that could happen. She died because he assumed he was right when he took that first x-ray, and he wasn't. He said she needed to be diagnosed with an ultrasound, so I asked why he didn't do that, and it's because he doesn't have one. The specialist he sent the xrays to said multiple times that the xrays were poor quality and that the technique used to take the images was inadequate. My family had to watch her suffer for a week before she died alone without us. I pray that nobody else has to go through this. This was my kids (7yrs, 5yrs, and 6months old) first dog, and now they are absolutely devastated. Even the humane society that directed me to him for the spay is astounded that this happened and told us to pursue any legal options we have, which we will be doing. Do yourself and your family a favor, and do NOT take your pets here. In response to Matars comment, who was the recipient of the money is irrelevant. It happened because of your surgery. There were no underlying issues. Just like the rest of the healthy pets on these reviews and on Google. Her food was not bad as you sugg

don’t recommend taking any animal here. the staff was not responsible and managed to loose my cats shot record. then charged me extra after they had gave me a price for his surgery because they forgot to give him his shots. no offense towards them but it’s just honesty and I did not like how they did him.
