If you want anything and I mean anything done to your car it's a must that you make it there no less than 45min. before they open the doors. Great work they do.

If I could give this business zero stars I would’ve, I spent over $50,000 on my 1967 GTO at this shop, it was there 4+ years, not touched the past year, came to find out the company was up for sale with 1 employee, no one let me know, had the car taken to another shop, a bunch of my parts were missing, several calls were made to obtain my parts with no call back, DO NOT use this shop, ended up taking my car to Carriage House in Homer Glen, they ended up finishing the car in eight months.

I was looking for something on Yelp and noticed reviews about AAR that struck a nerve with me, so I decided to finally offer my two cents too. A while back I took my 65 Mustang convertible to AAR to be restored by the previous owner, Bob. I got what I thought was a fair estimate for a chassis restoration and paint job, with new exterior parts to save on the cost of rebuilding the old. I was to finish the assembly for some fun and experience, and to save some money. A year or so later I got the car back, painted and looking pretty good, though about $5-6K over the estimate. Not too surprising, but the billing read worse than IRS tax codes. Parts were returned to me mixed in a large barrel, none "bagged and tagged" as is routine labeling in good restoration shops, so very few could be identified to be used where they belonged. I had to buy a lot from suppliers in order to learn what went where.... wasted time and money. The recommended exterior replacement parts used to save on labor were not fitted nor gapped, but returned to me.... PAINTED. The doors, hood, trunk, fender extensions, etc., could not be installed because they didn't fit, were pinched, had large gaps, and were badly misaligned... but they were painted. What restorer worth that title would paint exterior body parts before they were correctly fitted? I did find another shop with more integrity and skill to cut and fit, repaint, and finish the car the right way.....which, of course, cost even more. When I hear "AAR" all I know is they cost me a lot of extra money and grief, which I can't get back. It was a terrible and costly experience. I really do hope the new owner is better and more organized. If so, I hope they do well. If not, somebody should contact Gas Monkey Garage rehab.

I don't have an actual rating just a inquiry. How can places like this not be open on Saturday's, I've looked and almost everyone is closed. The people who needs you are working Monday thru Friday and then you close &5pm. So how are we to get estimates , etc??

American Auto Restoration is an automobile restoration business. NOT a detail shop! If you're looking to have an antique car restored check them out. You will not be disappointed by the quality of the work performed.

Unreliable, untrustworthy and unprofessional. Left my car for 10 days while out of town so they could detail it. Wasn't done on time, and "Bob" couldn't have cared less. I took my car and money elsewhere. Don't know how they're even in business given the contempt they showed for the $200+ I was ready to spend.
