Great thrift shop. Very random in objects acquired/donated, but interesting enough that it's part of my circuit of places to visit. Usually walk away with at least one thing per visit, or the desire to. Which is more than most thrift stores I visit anymore.

The shop has two stories -- both jammed with new and gently-used merchandise in very good condition and fairly priced. There is clothing for the entire family; shoes; housewares; jewelry; accessories; toys; wall art; linens; electronics; small appliances; Judaica; collectibles; etc. The inventory changes constantly as donations are received and processed. Very often the unsold items from North Shore estate, house and garage sales end up here. There are special deals every day. Check the outdoor sidewalk billboard and/or signs inside the store -- or ask an employee. There are huge clearance sales when the seasons change. Ask to be added to the mailing list to be notified. There is also a punch card loyalty discount program. There is excellent public transportation to this store. Not only is it directly across from the Highland Park Metra station, but PACE bus lines 213, 471 and 472 also stop there. I frequently see shoppers taking advantage of this convenient mass transit system. In addition, there is street parking as well as a number of parking lots. There is one lot behind the shop; one directly north of it (one way goring west), and several others nearby. ORT is an international educational organization which was founded in 1880. When you donate and/or shop here, you are helping the 300,000 students who benefit every year from ORT programs in North and Latin America, Eastern and Western Europe, Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Baltic States and Israel. Your visit here is a win-win. Treat you and your family to some fabulous bargains and help train and educate young people in 35 countries around the world.

This was an experience from a few months ago that I keep replaying in my mind, so feel the need to share with others. An extra star was added for selection, generally. A family member of mine had a misunderstanding or miscommunication about a hold/return policy on a item that hadn't left the store. He is one of the most giving, caring people I have ever known, and the item was something he had seen that he thought would help with my job, which is outdoors all year, sometimes for long periods of time. He had talked to the manager the day before about how to keep it there for me to try, and had paid for it, but kept it at the shop, because he had thought that the manager had said it could not be returned if it left the shop. The next day, it didn't end up fitting when I came in to try it, and when my family member asked to return it, was told no returns would be accepted, even if the item was left in the shop. My family member was confused, never angry, and asked if the person he had chatted with the day before was in, just to clear the confusion. The manager came around the corner YELLING at my family member. Just YELLING. In front of me, and other customers, and this man who is so giving and kind-hearted, who just wanted to do something nice for me. He didn't yell back. He was just verbally blasted by this manager for no reason in front of everyone. If the manager had calmly explained where a miscommunication may have happened, my family member would've understood, even if he was confused. I've never seen him treat sales staff with anything but respect and kindness. It broke my heart to watch as he was treated with such disrespect. I was too shocked to react at the time. He ended up gifting the item to another person in line who liked it and could fit it better. Another person who just watched him be yelled at. It's a testament to the kind of person he is. It was humiliating and horrible, what the manager did. Truly shameful.
