So I drove about two hours to go to my bank, which I had never been there before in Gurnee and I must say the experience was really different. I will give it a seven out of 10. But I do love this bank.

I set up a checking and saving account with direct deposit my check was deposited but I don’t have access to my account. I sent everything over everything the security team requested. It’s been 6 days and I haven’t been contacted also I spoke with 3 of you all customer service representatives & they all said they where connecting me with the right person I needed to speak with but after 30 mins (each time ) the call would disconnect

I applied for a $30k car loan and was denied.. I make over $200k a year and debt to income ration is extremely low, which they gave as their deciding factor.. idk why I wasted my time, got a loan with US Bank in 20seconds, while NF it took weeks to hear back.

Been with Navy Federal for more than 10 years and now all of a sudden they change their policy. I used to get my check the next day for mobile deposit for the last 10 years and now all of a sudden I have to wait 2 to 5 business days to get my check. Same check I’ve cash for the last 10 years and now I have to wait. Did the mobile deposit today and won’t get my check till Friday crazy.

I had always kept my account open with Navy Federal because I heard they were great for home loans. I just recently turned 65 and decided to downsize. I found a home and asked for only a letter of preapproval because it was hard to view homes in the pandemic without preapproval since there was so much competition to purchase in my area. As I told Navy Federal, my plan was to sell my home and then purchase. I was told I would be contacted within two days by a loan officer, but no one ever phoned back despite my repeated calls. They also fouled up the credit check and had to put it through three different times because they didn't contact me for a week to ask that credit check protection be lifted. Even after they got a successful credit check put through, no one bothered to phone me. Although I had money in the bank in addition to the value in my paid off home, and I was purchasing a home that was of equal value, Navy Federal turned down my loan preappoval request without even having a loan officer speak to me, and kept my application fee on top of it. I called and called and called for weeks and then finally received a loan denial by mail. The person I spoke with during the application process told me that a letter of approval was not the same as trying to get a loan. I was not actually asking for a loan! Because of this my credit score took a good sized dive, and I lost the home I wanted to buy. When I finally spoke with somebody in the loan department two months later, I told them that my new loan company told me that Navy Federal had handled things badly and appeared to be prejudiced against seniors. There were easy things that could have been done to ensure not just preapproval, but an actual loan, but Navy Federal doesn't care to do these things and treated me badly instead. I was told that someone from Navy Federal would call me back but it has been two months now and nobody has responded to my complaint or my request to have my application fee returned. Very bad business practices, and breach of trust, if not dishonest behavior; that is what I think of when I hear about Navy Federal these days.

Hardly any locations, none around Peru il.. this is not a great bank to go to if you ever plan to travel outside of Illinois as there are slim to none locations outside of illinois
