I am just rating the restaurant
Wendy there for breakfast buffet this morning. Food was at room temperature, not even warm. We finished our food before anyone even came and asked us if we wanted anything to drink
Service was very poor
Food & drinks: Don’t bother

Adorable and HUGE resort that has something for everyone. We stayed two nights at the main lodge. The rooms air conditioning worked but the room stayed damp all day on a hot humid Sunday and Monday.
The pillows were very very soft but we were able to get firmer ones upon request.
Overall, good stay and lots of amenities. Staff were excellent and you can tell are there to help and love their jobs.

It's a hotel. Not much to say other than it's a bit pricey for what it is. I'm sure it was a great place 25 years ago but it needs a lot of updating now.
With that being said the staff and employees are very polite and helpful. However most have the appearance on their faces of being overworked and underpaid.
I would strongly disagree with the name, Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa. While a Spa is available it is not in the same building as the Inn or even at the same address. The Spa is located across the street.
The resort part of the name I would argue is fair if you are talking about all the Eagle Ridge properties within The Galena Territory. However speaking of only the main Inn building this is a strong over exaggeration. All that is offered in the main building is a restaurant and bar which do not stay open very late. There is also a pool, steam room, sauna, small fitness center, a game room with a few arcade games, a playground and two outdoor tennis courts. There is also the Boat House which you can rent a pontoon, kayak, canoe, or paddle boat to cruise around on Lake Galena or to fish. Swimming is strictly prohibited.
It is apparent money is getting spent but in my opinion in all the wrong places. It appears the General Golf Course Pro Shop/Highlands Restaurant and Bar/the Country Store was just recently remodeled as well as the Spa. While leaving the Inn in a sad state of disrepair.
There is however plenty to do when staying here.
See my more in-depth overview of Eagle Ridge below.
Rooms: The rooms in the main Inn building are alright but are dated and could use some updating. As for cleanliness they are average with a few cobwebs and maybe a few unknown stains. They are just, "good enough".
The accomodations in the rooms are lacking. For starters there are no microwaves in any of the rooms at the Inn. There are also no microwaves available in a common area for guests to use. When I asked about this I was told the microwaves were all removed due to them being a fire hazard. I found this response hard to believe seeing as every other hotel, motel, or resort I have ever stayed at had either a microwave in the room or had them available in a common area for guests to use.
The rooms in the main Inn building are by far nicer than the courtyard rooms which are set up like most motels are where you have to go outside to get to your room. If you get the lower level rooms that the employees like to call "The Dungeons" you will soon understand why they got the name. They are below ground level with the added smell of must and mildew.
If at all possible I would suggest you request a room in the main Inn building and not the courtyard rooms.
Eagle Ridge also offers houses, condos, and townhouses for rent but are obviously more expensive. Some of these houses are owned by Eagle Ridge and others are privately owned and rented out by Eagle Ridge. These houses are in most cases a lot nicer than most of the rooms at the Inn and offer kitchens with microwaves!
Nearby activities: There is plenty to do if you choose to stay here. There are 4 golf courses (63 total holes), spa, 2 bars, 2 restaurants, and a Boat House. Also available to you when you stay at Eagle Ridge is a 225 acre private lake and marina, riding center, and 31 miles of paved and unpaved trails. (Motorized vehicles of any kind are prohibited on all trails.) Not to mention what there is to do in Galena!
Fishing is allowed in Lake Galena but swimming is strictly prohibited. Eagle Ridge guests are also allowed to rent pontoons, flat bottom boats, and kayaks from the marina. Non-members or non-property owners are not allowed to put their own boats on Lake Galena. The Shanendoah Riding Center is also available to guests for riding lessons and trail rides. Please keep in mind that when at any of the

I booked a one bedroom offsite in the private rentals. However, when we arrived and checked in the accommodations look like it was straight out of the 1980s and had a very musty smell to it. Went to the front desk and spoke with Emma and Janice, who were more than accommodating to put us in another room. We ended up staying in a room with a fireplace at the lodge. I’m not sure if all the rooms are updated, but this one was very good. The mistake I made was not looking at the photographs on the website, but just went with what the reservation i person booked for us. Before you book it all site private rental. Please look at the photographs. A lot of the rentals are very dated from my understanding.
My wife went to the spa and said it was excellent.
The grounds are very nice.
While the resort is dated in certain areas, my understanding is that new ownership is doing things to bring it up to current standards hence the new Spa.
We would return again.
Nearby activities: Golf, paddle boat, canoe, kayaking. Downtown Galena 15 minute drive away
Walkability: plenty of roads to take morning or afternoon walks

Went to a conference there for my wife. Very outdated rooms, they could use the name of a bug exterminator.

Rented a townhouse on the property. Beautiful area. Lots to do. Very close to Galena. Quiet and peaceful. Thunder bay falls very close.

If you are looking to get away, Eagle Ridge hits the mark!! Very remote, but beautiful sights. The villa I stayed in had everything we needed, I only needed to bring food and laundry detergent. Having access to the pool at the resort was a big plus.

Eagle Ridge if you buy anything at the general store they are charging a processing fee of 3.5% for using a credit card. Will never go there again. Same with their restaurant they charge 3.5% processing fee. Went to their restaurant this evening and ordered Salmon and it was a very small portion and tasted fishy and they did nothing about it. Last time going there. They also charge a 3.5% processing fee.
Salmon cost $34.
Cost of food is so expensive these days and now they want you to pay for their overhead. They should put it in the cost of the salmon.
Hopefully IL will do what Mass and CT has as a law. Can't charge a processing fee.

I never had the pleasure of going to Galena, Illinois before and was able to visit Eagle Ridge resort and spa for a wedding. Stunning property, beautiful houses and lodging, wonderful customer service, and around great visit.

Beautiful location and setting but unfortunately outdated and inconsistent customer service. The location itself is beautiful and woodsy with a spa and golf course nearby and only a less than 15 minute ride to downtown Galena. The rooms themselves were nice but very outdated, we also had issues with cleanliness as we found chunks of hair in the bathroom upon arrival. We also had issues with the in-room wood burning fireplace, great concept for a romantic getaway; if it works. We could not get it lit even with multiple additional starters and asking for help. We also didn’t love the stack of wood and multiple cobwebs as a clear indication this isn’t used or cleaned very often. As far as service goes, we had one phone call that was very rude and inconsiderate but the person who checked us in was great and very friendly. However, we overheard another interaction that was similar to our phone call and for such a beautiful resort, it was disappointing to see such rude customer service.

I had a business trip, among many, in Galena and we won’t be staying at Eagle Ridge again. I would prefer staying at Best Western since their rooms are comparable for half the price.
We couldn’t even dine in the restaurant and left because of Jack, the manager. He was extremely rude and condescending towards us and assumed that my husband was not intelligent enough to read the menu. He went on to explain how it really “messes up the kitchen” when we don’t order the way he’s telling us to. Essentially, he wanted us to spend more money. He never spoke or even acknowledged me at the table, even though I was the one paying! I had to sit and listen to him speak to my husband only while he completely ignored me. During Jack’s monologue, I gazed out the window at the lake because I had nothing else to do. If he couldn’t give me attention, why should I acknowledge his presence?
The hostess and waitress, for the brief moments we had with them, were very pleasantly kind.
The room had hair ties still on the dirty bathroom door handle in the bathroom.
The remote was clearly dirty and never had been cleaned.
They may have taken the time to kill a bug on the bathoom wall but not enough to acutally clean it off the wall.
Beds were not comfortable at all and felt like a cheap mattress. We both sank to the middle when laying down.
The best part, there was POOP under the toilet paper holder on the wall. This is what im paying $300 for a room looks like!?
We will never be staying at Eagle Ridge again and will be informing many members we know of Eagle Ridge of our experience.
