If you are thinking about taking lessons or signing your child up for lessons, you should seriously reconsider this location. Find a corporate location that has the proper resources. This place is overall NOT functional and failing.

My son, Liam, has been at SOR Evanston for many years (drums, guitar and bass) and has greatly developed his musical and stage presence skills. The performance series shows are particularly entertaining! Since Liam is graduating HS in May, it will be sad to leave SOR but we’re all so grateful for the positive experience and friendships made along the way. Well done SOR Evanston!

The instructors seem competent and my son enjoys the lessons. I just wish it was easier communicating with the staff. Due to the late-ish hours the business runs, getting an actual person on the phone is potluck. Email sometimes gets an answer within a couple of hours, other times it seems that days go by before someone responds. Their overall attitude is laid-back, which is fine, I suppose, and in keeping with the SOR "way". I just think they could be a bit more professional and efficient insofar as the customer service is concerned.

I work at Evanston Rocks, where School of Rock performs a lot. I just wanted to let everyone know that it brings me such joy to see younger people playing instruments and the music from generations before even I was born. I tried really hard not to cry through out the whole performance, but the closing solo during Hotel California got me. Keep on Rocking!

They are very disorganized. Bands are too big for the kids to have enough playing time. They do not return voicemails. The worst issue was they canceled the summer camp that was to begin on Monday, on Friday before, at 6pm! I had to take a week off of work since I was unable to find another camp that had openings for my child.

Matt is a great guitar player, and also a good teacher. I'm very enjoying the time when I having class with him.

Hey if you're looking for an awesome drum teacher, look no further than Steve if you live in Evanston! Guy has great chops and makes the learning process fun.

As a guy who makes his living as a musician, I was skeptical at first. I thought, sure, I could hire someone to give private lessons for a little less maybe...but who could teach my daughter, a kid from a musical family with some pretty developed musicianship already?.... School of Rock has been the answer. I should mention my kid has had some struggles through high school (whose child hasn't?) with more than just homework. SoR Evanston has been not only an open door to a different world, but it's been a safe place to land. She has made many friends, improved her musicianship, and has been exposed to more than a few new styles and genres of music. Did I mention the gigs? She has had the opportunity to perform life at many events in front of hundreds of people. Not just other kids' moms, dads, aunts and Grandma -- but the public, at outdoor festivals, block parties, even bars like Evanston's 27 Live, The Empty Bottle, Wild Hare and the House Of Blues Chicago. If I had these chances when I was back in high school, who knows where I'd be now. The teachers are committed. The shows are always changing and focusing on different bands and eras of music WHICH THE KIDS LIKE to play. Best of all, my daughter wants to be there at rehearsals and lessons; she's rehearsing or performing 3-5 days a week. If you want your kid to learn Beethoven, hire a grad student from Northwestern to give private lessons. If you want yours to be part of a group, grow as a young adult AND as a musician, here's your answer.

My daughter has been taking lessons and performing with School of Rock for over a year now. Their instructors are all professionals who relate well with the students and encourage them while onstage with their bands. I've seen my daughter grow not only as a musician, but as a team member. Her overall confidence onstage has definitely improved and she's made some great friends. All in all, a wonderful experience for her.
